    25ያ ቀን የወደቁት ሁሉ ወንድና ሴት አብረው አሥራ ሁለት ሺህ ነበሩ፤ ይኸውም የአይ ሕዝብ ሁሉ ነበር።

    26ዮሴዋም ጦሩን በዘረጋበት እጁን እስኪያጠፋቸው ሁሉ ድረስ አላመለሰም።

    27እስራኤላውያን ግን ከከተማው እንስሶቿንና ምርኮዋን በእግዚአብሔር ለዮሴዋ እንዳዘዘ መሠረት ለራሳቸው ምርኮ ወስደው ተቀበሉ።

    28ዮሴዋም አይን አቃጠለና ለዘላለም የፍርስራሽ ክምር አደረጋት፤ እስከ ዛሬ ድረስም ባድማ ትቀመጣለች።

    29የአይ ንጉሥንም እስከ ማታ ድረስ በዛፍ ላይ ሰቀሉት፤ ፀሐይ ባረደ ጊዜ ግን ከዛፉ ሥጋውን እንዲውሩት ዮሴዋ አዘዘ፥ በከተማውም በር መግቢያ ላይ ጣሉትና በላዩ ላይ ታላቅ የድንጋይ ክምር አነሡ፤ እስከ ዛሬ ድረስም ይኖራል።

    1እግዚአብሔርም ለዮሴዋ አለው፦ አትፍራ፣ አትደንግጥ፤ የጦር ሕዝቡን ሁሉ ከአንተ ጋር ውሰድ፥ ተነሥ ወደ አይ ሂድ፤ እነሆ፣ የአይ ንጉሥን ሕዝቡንም ከተማውንም ምድሩንም በእጅህ ሰጥቻለሁ።

    2አይንና ንጉሥዋን እንደ ኢሪኮንና ንጉሥዋን ያደረግህ እንዲሁ ታደርጋቸዋለህ፤ የተፈጠረውን ምርኮና እንስሶቿን ግን ለራሳችሁ ትወስዳላችሁ፤ ከተማው በኋላ ሸሽቦ አድርግ።

    3እንግዲህ ዮሴዋና የጦር ሕዝቡ ሁሉ በአይ ላይ ለመውጣት ተነሡ፤ ዮሴዋም ሠላሳ ሺህ ብርቱ ኃያላን መረጠና ሌሊት ሰደዳቸው።

    4እነርሱንም እንዲህ ብሎ አዘዛቸው፦ እነሆ፣ ከተማውን በኋላ ተደብቋት ትጠብቃላችሁ፤ ከከተማው እጅግ አትራቁ፤ ሁሉም ዝግጁ ሁኑ።

    5እኔም ከእኔ ጋር ያሉት ሕዝብ ሁሉ ወደ ከተማው እንቀርባለን፤ እነርሱም እንደ መጀመሪያው በላያችን ሲወጡ ከፊታቸው እንሸሻለን።

    6እነርሱ እስኪያስወጡን ድረስ ከከተማው ይከተሉናል፤ ‘እንደ መጀመሪያው ከፊታችን እየሸሹ ነው’ ይላሉና እኛም ከፊታቸው እንሸሻለን።

    7እናንተ ግን ከሸሽቦው ቦታ ተነሡ ከተማውን ይዙ፤ እግዚአብሔር አምላካችሁ በእጃችሁ ይሰጣታል።

    8ከተማውንም ካወሰዳችሁ በኋላ በእግዚአብሔር ትእዛዝ ከተማውን በእሳት አቃጥሉ፤ እነሆ፣ አዘዝኋችሁ።

    9ዮሴዋም እነርሱን ሰደዳቸው፤ እነርሱም ለሸሽቦ ሄዱና በቤቴልና አይ መካከል በአይ ምዕራብ ወገን ተቀመጡ፤ ዮሴዋ ግን በዚያኑ ሌሊት ከሕዝቡ ጋር ተሰፍኖ ኖረ።

    10ዮሴዋም ጠዋት በጠዋት ተነሣ፥ ሕዝቡን ቈጠረ፤ እርሱና የእስራኤል ሽማግሌዎች በሕዝቡ ፊት ወደ አይ ወጡ።

    11ከእርሱ ጋር ያሉ የጦር ሕዝብ ሁሉ ወጡና ወደ ከተማው ቀረቡ፤ በአይ ሰሜን ወገን ተሰፍኑ፤ መካከላቸውና አይ መካከል ግን ሸለቆ ነበረ።

    12እንዲሁም ከአምስት ሺህ ያህል ሰዎች አወሰደና በከተማው ምዕራብ ወገን በቤቴልና አይ መካከል ለሸሽቦ አቀመጣቸው።

    13ከተማው በሰሜን ያለውን ሠራዊት ሁሉ እና በምዕራብ ያሉትን ሸሽቦዎች ካቀመጡ በኋላ ዮሴዋ በዚያኑ ሌሊት ወደ ሸለቆው መካከል ገባ።

    14የአይ ንጉሥ ይህን ሲያይ ቸኩሎ ጠዋት ማለዳ ነሣ፤ እርሱና የከተማው ሰዎች ሁሉ በተወሰነ ጊዜ በሜዳው ፊት ወደ እስራኤል ለሰልፍ ወጡ፤ ነገር ግን ከተማው በኋላ በእርሱ ላይ የተደበቁ እንዳሉ አላወቀም።

    15ዮሴዋና እስራኤል ሁሉ እንደ ተሸነፉ አድርገው ከፊታቸው በምድረበዳው መንገድ ሸሹ።

    16ከአይ ያሉ ሕዝብ ሁሉ እርስ በርሳቸው ተሰብስበው እነርሱን ለመከታተል ወጡ፤ ዮሴዋንም ተከትለው ከከተማው ተራቁቱ።

    17ከአይ ወይም ከቤቴል እስራኤልን ለመከታተል ሳያወጣ የቀረ ሰው አልነበረም፤ ከተማውን ክፍት ተው እስራኤልን ተከተሉ።

    18እግዚአብሔርም ለዮሴዋ አለው፦ በእጅህ ያለውን ጦር ወደ አይ ዘርጋ፤ እኔ በእጅህ እሰጣታለሁ። ዮሴዋም በእጁ ያለውን ጦር ወደ ከተማው ዘረጋ።

    19ሸሽቦውም ከስፍራቸው ፈጥነው ተነሡ፤ እጁን በዘረጋ ጊዜ ወዲያው ሮጡ፥ በከተማው ገብተው ወሰዱና ፈጥነው ከተማውን በእሳት አቃጠሉ።
