A young man named Eutychus, who was sitting in a window, fell into a deep sleep as Paul kept talking on and on. Overcome by sleep, he fell from the third floor and was picked up dead.

But Paul went down, threw himself on him, and put his arms around him. He said, 'Do not be alarmed, for his life is still in him.'

Then Paul went back upstairs, broke bread and ate. After talking with them for a long time, until daybreak, he left.

From there, we set sail and arrived opposite Chios the next day. The following day, we crossed over to Samos, stayed at Trogyllium, and the day after that, we came to Miletus.

Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus to avoid spending time in Asia, because he was hurrying to be in Jerusalem, if possible, by the day of Pentecost.

From Miletus, he sent a message to Ephesus and called for the elders of the church to come to him.

When they arrived, he said to them, 'You know how I lived the whole time I was with you, from the first day I set foot in Asia.'

'I testified both to Jews and to Greeks about repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.'

Og nå, se, jeg drar bundet i Ånden til Jerusalem, uten å vite hva som vil møte meg der,

'And now, behold, I am bound by the Spirit to go to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there.'

'And now, behold, I know that none of you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom will see my face again.'

Therefore, I testify to you today that I am innocent of the blood of everyone.

For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole plan of God.

Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, among whom the Holy Spirit has appointed you as overseers, to shepherd the church of God, which He purchased with His own blood.

I know that after my departure, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock.

Even from among your own group, men will rise up, speaking twisted things to draw away the disciples to follow them.

Vær derfor våkne og husk at jeg i tre år, natt og dag, uopphørlig har formanet hver enkelt med tårer.

Therefore, be watchful, remembering that for three years I never stopped admonishing each one of you with tears, night and day.

And now, I entrust you, brothers, to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all who are sanctified.

After saying this, Paul knelt down with them all and prayed.

They all wept loudly as they embraced Paul and kissed him.

They were deeply grieved because of what he had said—that they would never see his face again. Then they accompanied him to the ship.
