Dere er barn av Herren deres Gud. Dere skal ikke kutte dere selv eller gjøre en skallet flekk mellom øynene for de døde.

You are children of the LORD your God. Do not cut yourselves or shave a bald spot on your foreheads for the dead.

For du er et hellig folk for Herren din Gud, og Herren har utvalgt deg til å være hans egne eiendom blant alle folkene som er på jorden.

For you are a holy people set apart for the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be His treasured possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.

Du skal ikke spise noen avskyelige ting.

You shall not eat any detestable thing.

Dette er de dyrene dere kan spise: okse, sau og geit.

These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat;

Hjorten, gasellen, den ville geiten, antilopen, den ville oksen og fjellgeiten.

the deer, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope, and the mountain sheep.

Enhver dyreart som har kløvd hov og tygger drøv, blant dyrene kan dere spise.

You may eat any animal that has divided hooves completely split and chews the cud.

Men dette skal dere ikke spise av dem som tygger drøv eller har kløvd hov: kamelen, haren og fjellgrevlingen, for selv om de tygger drøv, har de ikke kløvd hov; de er urene for dere.

But of those that chew the cud or have divided hooves, you shall not eat these: the camel, the hare, and the rock badger, because although they chew the cud, they do not have divided hooves; they are unclean for you.

But of these you shall not eat: the eagle, the vulture, and the black vulture;

the ostrich, the night hawk, the sea gull, and any kind of hawk;

the little owl, the great owl, and the white owl;

Pelikanen, gribb-uglen og fisk-uglen.

the pelican, the carrion vulture, and the cormorant;

Og storken og heronen etter dens slag, samt dvergrelaufen og flaggermusen.

the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe, and the bat.

Alle skadedyr som flyr, er urene for dere; de skal ikke spises.

Every swarming winged creature is unclean for you; they shall not be eaten.

Alle rene fugler kan dere spise.

You may eat any clean flying creature.

Dere skal ikke spise noe som er dødt av seg selv. Dere kan gi det til innflytteren som bor i byportene dine, så han kan spise det, eller dere kan selge det til en fremmed. For du er et folk hellig for Herren din Gud. Du skal ikke koke et kje i sin mors melk.

You shall not eat anything that dies naturally. You may give it to the foreigner living in your towns so that he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner. For you are a holy people set apart for the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.

Du skal gi tiende av hele avlingen som vokser på marken hvert år.

Be sure to set aside a tenth of all the yield of your seed that comes from the field year by year.

Og du skal spise for Herren din Gud, på det stedet han velger å la sitt navn bo, tienden av din kornavling, din vin og din olje, samt de førstefødte av din buskap og småfe, slik at du kan lære å frykte Herren din Gud alle dine dager.

You shall eat the tithe of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and flock in the presence of the LORD your God at the place He chooses for His name to dwell, so that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.

Og hvis veien er for lang for deg slik at du ikke kan bære den, fordi stedet der Herren din Gud velger å legge sitt navn er for langt borte for deg når Herren din Gud velsigner deg,

But if the journey is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry it, because the place where the LORD your God chooses to establish His name is too far away, then when the LORD your God blesses you,

da skal du omskape det til penger, binde pengene i hånden din og dra til det stedet Herren din Gud velger.

you shall exchange it for money, take the money in your hand, and go to the place the LORD your God chooses.

Da skal du bruke pengene til hva ditt hjerte måtte ønske: storfe, småfe, vin, sterk drikk eller hva som helst du ønsker. Du skal spise der for Herrens din Guds ansikt og glede deg, du og ditt hus.

Then you may spend the money on whatever you desire: cattle, sheep, wine, strong drink, or whatever you wish. You shall eat there in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice, you and your household.

Og levitten som bor i byportene dine, må du ikke forsøm, for han har ingen del eller arv sammen med deg.

And do not neglect the Levite living in your towns, for he has no portion or inheritance with you.

Ved slutten av hvert tredje år skal du bringe ut hele tienden av din avling i det samme året og legge det i byportene dine.

At the end of every three years, bring out a tenth of all your produce for that year and store it within your towns.

Og levitten, fordi han ikke har noen del eller arv sammen med deg, innflytteren, den farløse og enken som bor i dine byporter, skal komme og spise og bli mette, slik at Herren din Gud kan velsigne deg i alt arbeid du gjør.

Then the Levite (because he has no portion or inheritance with you), the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.
