Moses gikk og talte disse ordene til hele Israel.

Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel.

Han sa til dem: 'Jeg er i dag hundre og tjue år gammel. Jeg kan ikke lenger gå ut og inn, og Herren har sagt til meg: Du skal ikke krysse denne Jordan-elven.'

He said to them, 'I am now 120 years old, and I am no longer able to lead you. The LORD has said to me, 'You shall not cross the Jordan.''

Herren din Gud går foran deg, og han skal utrydde disse folkene foran deg, så du kan ta landet i eie. Josva skal gå foran deg, slik Herren har sagt.

The LORD your God himself will cross ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you shall take possession of them. Joshua will cross ahead of you, as the LORD has said.

Herren skal gjøre med dem som han gjorde med Sihon og Og, amorittenes konger, og med deres land da han ødela dem.

And the LORD will do to them as he did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, and to their land, whom he destroyed.

Herren skal overgi dem til dere, og dere skal gjøre med dem i samsvar med hele den loven jeg har gitt dere.

The LORD will deliver them to you, and you must act toward them according to the entire commandment I have instructed you.

Vær sterke og modige! Frykt ikke, og vær ikke redde for dem, for Herren din Gud går med deg. Han vil ikke forlate deg og ikke svikte deg.

Be strong and courageous! Do not fear or be terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Så kalte Moses Josva til seg og sa til ham foran hele Israel: 'Vær sterk og modig, for du skal føre dette folket inn i det landet som Herren sverget til deres fedre at han ville gi dem. Du skal føre dem til eiendommen.'

Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel: 'Be strong and courageous, for you will bring this people into the land that the LORD swore to their ancestors to give them, and you shall divide it among them as their inheritance.'

Herren selv går foran deg. Han vil være med deg. Han vil ikke svikte deg og ikke forlate deg. Frykt ikke, og vær ikke motløs.

The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

Moses skrev denne loven ned og overleverte den til prestene, Levis sønner, som bar Herrens paktsark, og til alle Israels eldste.

So Moses wrote down this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and to all the elders of Israel.

Moses ga dem denne befaling: 'Ved slutten av hvert syvende år, i ettergivelsesåret, under løvhyttefesten,

Then Moses commanded them, saying, 'At the end of every seven years, in the appointed time of the year of release, during the Festival of Tabernacles,

'når hele Israel kommer for å vise seg for Herren din Gud på det stedet han velger, skal du lese denne loven for hele folket, så de hører den.

when all Israel comes to appear before the LORD your God at the place he will choose, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing.'

'Samle folket, menn, kvinner, barn og innflytterne som bor ved portene dine, så de kan høre og lære og frykte Herren deres Gud og akte på å gjøre alt som står i denne loven.

Assemble the people—men, women, children, and the foreigners residing in your towns—so they can listen and learn to fear the LORD your God and carefully follow all the words of this law.

'Og barna deres, som ikke kjenner loven, skal høre og lære å frykte Herren deres Gud alle de dager dere lever i landet som dere nå går over Jordan for å ta i eie.'

And their children, who do not know it yet, will hear it and learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess.

Herren sa til Moses: 'Nå nærmer dine dager seg for å dø. Kall Josva, og still dere sammen i møteteltet, så jeg kan gi ham hans oppdrag.' Moses og Josva gikk og stilte seg i møteteltet.

The LORD said to Moses, 'Behold, the time of your death is near. Call Joshua and present yourselves at the tent of meeting so that I may commission him.' So Moses and Joshua went and stood at the tent of meeting.

Herren viste seg i teltet i en skystøtte, og skystøtten sto over inngangen til teltet.

Then the LORD appeared at the tent in a pillar of cloud, and the cloud stood over the entrance to the tent.

Herren sa til Moses: 'Se, du vil snart hvile hos dine fedre. Så vil dette folket reise seg og følge fremmede guder i det landet de går inn i. De vil forlate meg og bryte min pakt som jeg har opprettet med dem.

The LORD said to Moses, 'Behold, you are going to rest with your ancestors, and this people will rise up and prostitute themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake me and break the covenant I made with them.'

Da skal min vrede flamme opp mot dem på den dagen. Jeg vil forlate dem og skjule mitt ansikt for dem, så de blir prisgitt andres makt, og mange onde ting og trengsler vil ramme dem. Da vil de si: Er det ikke fordi vår Gud ikke er iblant oss at disse tingene har skjedd oss?

On that day, my anger will burn against them, and I will abandon them and hide my face from them, and they will be consumed. Many disasters and calamities will come upon them, and on that day they will say, 'Have not these disasters come upon us because our God is not with us?'

Men jeg vil skjule mitt ansikt på den dagen på grunn av all den ondskapen de har gjort ved å vende seg til andre guder.

'And I will surely hide my face on that day because of all the evil they have done by turning to other gods.'

Skriv nå ned denne sangen og lær den til Israels barn. Legg den i deres munn, så denne sangen kan være et vitne for meg mot Israels barn.

'Now write down this song and teach it to the Israelites. Have them sing it, so that it may be a witness for me against the Israelites.'

For når jeg har ført dem inn i landet som flyter av melk og honning, det som jeg sverget til deres fedre, og de har spist seg mette og blitt fete, så vil de vende seg til andre guder og tjene dem. De vil forakte meg og bryte min pakt.

When I bring them into the land flowing with milk and honey, the land I swore to their ancestors, and they eat their fill and grow fat, they will turn to other gods and worship them, rejecting me and breaking my covenant.

Når mange onde ting og trengsler rammer dem, skal denne sangen vitne mot dem, for den skal ikke bli glemt i deres etterkommeres munn. Jeg vet hva de har i sinne allerede i dag, før jeg fører dem inn i landet som jeg har sverget å gi dem.

And when many disasters and troubles have come upon them, this song will testify against them, for it will not be forgotten from the mouths of their descendants. For I know what they are inclined to do, even before I bring them into the land I swore to give them.

Samme dag skrev Moses ned denne sangen og lærte den til Israels barn.

So Moses wrote down this song that day and taught it to the Israelites.

Herren ga Josva, Nuns sønn, dette oppdraget: 'Vær sterk og modig, for du skal føre Israels barn inn i det landet jeg sverget å gi dem. Jeg vil være med deg.'

Then the LORD gave this command to Joshua son of Nun: 'Be strong and courageous, for you will bring the Israelites into the land I swore to them, and I will be with you.'

Da Moses var ferdig med å skrive ned ordene i denne loven i en bok til enden,

After Moses finished writing in a book the words of this law from beginning to end,

befalte han levittene som bar Herrens paktsark:

he gave this command to the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD:

'Ta denne lovens bok og legg den ved siden av Herrens, deres Guds, paktsark, så den kan være et vitne mot dere.

'Take this Book of the Law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God. There it will remain as a witness against you.

For jeg vet om deres opprørskhet og deres stahet. Om dere er opprørske mot Herren allerede mens jeg er levende blant dere, hvor mye mer etter min død!

For I know how rebellious and stiff-necked you are. If you have been rebellious against the LORD while I am still alive and with you, how much more will you rebel after my death!

Samle hos meg alle deres eldste og oppsynsmenn, så jeg kan tale disse ordene i deres hørsel og kalle himmelen og jorden som vitner mot dem.

'Assemble before me all the elders of your tribes and all your officials, so that I can speak these words in their hearing and call heaven and earth to testify against them.

For jeg vet at etter min død vil dere helt sikkert handle korrupt og vike av fra den veien jeg har befalt dere å gå. Ondskap vil ramme dere i de siste dager, fordi dere gjør det som er ondt i Herrens øyne for å krenke ham med deres henders verk.

For I know that after my death you are sure to become utterly corrupt and to turn from the way I have commanded you. In days to come, disaster will fall on you because you will do evil in the sight of the LORD and arouse his anger by what your hands have made.'

Så fremførte Moses denne sangen for hele Israels menighet, til ordene var fullstendig uttalt.

And Moses recited the words of this song from beginning to end in the hearing of the whole assembly of Israel.
