In the sixth year, on the fifth day of the sixth month, I was sitting in my house, and the elders of Judah were sitting before me. There the hand of the Lord Yahweh came upon me.

Jeg så, og se, det var en skikkelse med utseende som ild. Fra det som syntes å være hoftene og nedover var det ild, og fra hoftene og oppover var det noe som lignet en strålende glans som glødende metall.

I looked, and there was a form with the appearance of fire. From what looked like his waist downward was fire, and from his waist upward was something like a glowing brightness, resembling gleaming metal.

Han rakte ut noe som lignet en hånd og tok meg i en hårlokk på hodet. Ånden løftet meg opp mellom jorden og himmelen og førte meg i syner fra Gud til Jerusalem, til inngangen til den indre porten som vender mot nord. Der sto det avgudsbilder som vekket Guds sjalusi.

He stretched out what looked like a hand and took me by the lock of my head. Then the spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and brought me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north-facing inner gate, where the seat of the idol that provokes jealousy was located.

Og se, der var Israels Guds herlighet, slik den hadde vist seg for meg i dalen.

And there was the glory of the God of Israel, like the vision that I had seen in the valley.

Then He said to me, 'Son of man, lift up your eyes now toward the north.' So I lifted my eyes toward the north, and there, north of the gate of the altar, was this idol of jealousy at the entrance.

Han sa til meg: «Ser du, menneskesønn, hva Israels hus gjør her, sine store avskyeligheter som får meg til å vende meg bort fra min helligdom? Men du skal se enda større avskyeligheter.»

And He said to me, 'Son of man, do you see what they are doing—the great abominations that the house of Israel is committing here, to drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see even greater abominations.'

Så førte han meg til inngangen til forgården, og der så jeg et hull i veggen.

Then He brought me to the entrance of the courtyard, and I looked, and behold, there was a hole in the wall.

Han sa til meg: «Menneskesønn, bryt gjennom veggen!» Jeg brøt gjennom veggen, og se, der var det en åpning.

He said to me, 'Son of man, dig through the wall now.' So I dug through the wall, and behold, there was an entrance.

Han sa til meg: «Gå inn og se de onde avskyelighetene de gjør her.»

And He said to me, 'Go in and see the wicked abominations they are doing here.'

Da gikk jeg inn og så, og se, hele veggen rundt var dekket med bilder av krypende ting, dyr som de selv hadde foraktet, og alle Israels hus' avskyelige avguder.

So I went in and looked, and behold, there were all sorts of carvings of crawling things, detestable animals, and all the idols of the house of Israel engraved on the walls all around.

Foran dem sto sytti menn av Israels eldste, og midt blant dem var Ja’azanja, Sefans sønn. Hver av dem hadde et røkelseskar i hånden, og en tykk røk steg opp fra røkelsen.

Seventy elders of the house of Israel were standing there, with Jaazaniah, son of Shaphan, standing among them. Each had a censer in his hand, and a thick cloud of incense was rising.

Han sa til meg: «Har du sett, menneskesønn, hva Israels hus' eldste gjør i mørket, hver i sitt rom for utskårne bilder? For de sier: 'Herren ser oss ikke. Herren har forlatt landet.'»

Then He said to me, 'Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each in the chamber of his carved images? For they say, ‘The Lord does not see us; the Lord has abandoned the land.’'

Han sa også til meg: «Du skal få se avskyeligheter som er enda større enn disse.»

And He said to me, 'You will see even greater abominations that they are committing.'

Så førte han meg til inngangen til porten som vender mot nord, til Herrens hus. Der satt kvinner og gråt over Tammuz.

Then He brought me to the entrance of the north gate of the house of the Lord, and behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz.

Han sa til meg: «Har du sett, menneskesønn? Du skal se avskyeligheter som er enda større enn disse.»

And He said to me, 'Have you seen this, son of man? You will see even greater abominations than these.'

Så førte han meg til den indre forgården i Herrens hus, og ved inngangen til Herrens tempel, mellom forhallen og alteret, var det omkring tjuefem menn. De vendte ryggen mot Herrens tempel og ansiktene mot øst. De bøyde seg ned i tilbedelse mot solen.

Then He brought me into the inner court of the house of the Lord, and behold, at the entrance of the temple of the Lord, between the porch and the altar, there were about twenty-five men with their backs to the temple of the Lord and their faces toward the east, bowing down to the sun in the east.

Han sa til meg: «Har du sett dette, menneskesønn? Er det en liten sak for Judas hus å begå de avskyelighetene de har gjort her? For de har fylt landet med vold og vekker min vrede igjen og igjen. Se, de holder grenen til nesen som en hån.»

And He said to me, 'Have you seen this, son of man? Is it a trivial thing for the house of Judah to commit the abominations they commit here? For they have filled the land with violence and continually anger Me. Behold, they are even putting the branch to their nose!

Derfor vil også jeg handle i vrede. Jeg vil ikke spare eller ha medynk. Selv om de roper høyt til meg med sin stemme, vil jeg ikke høre dem.

Therefore I will act in wrath. My eye will not spare, nor will I have compassion. Even though they cry out loudly in My ears, I will not hear them.'
