At that time, Merodach-baladan, son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, because he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick and had recovered.

Hiskia gledet seg over dem, og han viste dem hele sitt skattekammer: sølvet, gullet, balsamen og den fine oljen, samt hele sitt våpenlager og alt som fantes blant hans skatter. Det var ingenting i hans hus eller i hele hans rike som Hiskia ikke viste dem.

Hezekiah was pleased with them, and he showed them everything in his treasure house—the silver, the gold, the spices, the fine oil, all his armory, and everything in his storehouses. There was nothing in his palace or in his entire kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.

Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah and asked him, "What did these men say, and where did they come from?" Hezekiah replied, "They came to me from a distant land, from Babylon."

Then Isaiah asked, "What have they seen in your palace?" Hezekiah answered, "They have seen everything in my palace. There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them."

Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, "Hear the word of the LORD of Armies:

Se, dager kommer da alt som er i ditt hus, og som dine fedre har samlet til denne dag, skal bli båret bort til Babylon. Ingenting skal bli igjen, sier Herren.

'Behold, the days are coming when everything in your palace, and all that your fathers have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left,' says the LORD.

Og av dine sønner som utgår fra deg, som du skal føde, skal de ta med seg, og de skal bli hoffmenn i kongens palass i Babylon.»

Some of your own descendants, who will issue from you and whom you will father, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

Hiskia sa til Jesaja: «Guds ord som du har talt, er godt.» For han tenkte: «Det vil være fred og trygghet i mine dager.»

Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good," for he thought, "There will be peace and security in my days."
