The word of the LORD came to me, saying:

Gå og rop ut i Jerusalems hørsel og si: Så sier Herren: Jeg husker din ungdoms troskap, din kjærlighet som en brud, da du fulgte meg i ørkenen, i et land som ikke var sådd.

Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem: ‘This is what the LORD says: I remember the devotion of your youth, your love as a bride, how you followed me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.

Israel var helliget Herren, hans førstegrøde. Alle som åt av det, måtte bøte; ulykke kom over dem, sier Herren.

Israel was holy to the LORD, the firstfruits of his harvest. All who tried to devour it were held guilty; disaster came upon them,’ declares the LORD.

Hør Herrens ord, Jakobs hus, alle slektene av Israels hus!

Hear the word of the LORD, house of Jacob, and all the clans of the house of Israel.

Så sier Herren: Hva urett fant deres fedre hos meg, siden de fjernet seg fra meg, fulgte tomhet og selv ble tomme?

This is what the LORD says: ‘What fault did your ancestors find in me that they strayed so far from me? They pursued worthless idols and became worthless themselves.

They did not ask, ‘Where is the LORD, who brought us up out of Egypt and led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and ravines, a land of drought and deep darkness, a land where no one travels and no one lives?’

I brought you into a fertile land to eat its fruit and its bounty. But you came and defiled my land. You made my inheritance detestable.

The priests did not ask, ‘Where is the LORD?’ Those who handle the law did not know me; the shepherds rebelled against me; the prophets prophesied by Baal and followed worthless things.

Derfor vil jeg fortsatt føre sak mot dere, sier Herren, og også mot deres barnebarn vil jeg føre sak.

Therefore I will still bring charges against you, declares the LORD, and against your children’s children I will bring charges.

Go across to the coasts of Cyprus and look, send to Kedar and observe closely; see if there has ever been anything like this.

Har et folk byttet ut sine guder, som enda ikke er guder? Men mitt folk har byttet bort sin herlighet mot noe som ikke kan gagne.

Has a nation ever changed its gods? (Yet they are not gods at all.) But my people have exchanged their glory for worthless idols.

Be appalled at this, you heavens, and shudder with great horror,” declares the LORD.

You are like a wild donkey accustomed to the wilderness, sniffing the wind in her desire. Who can restrain her in her mating season? None of those seeking her will grow weary; in her month, they will find her.

Keep your feet from going bare and your throat from thirst. But you said, ‘It’s hopeless! I love foreigners, and I will follow them.’

As a thief is ashamed when caught, so the house of Israel is put to shame—they, their kings, their officials, their priests, and their prophets.

They say to a tree, ‘You are my father,’ and to a stone, ‘You gave birth to me.’ They have turned their backs to me and not their faces. Yet in their time of trouble, they will say, ‘Arise and save us!’

But where are your gods that you made for yourself? Let them arise and save you in your time of trouble, if they can. For as many as your cities are your gods, Judah.

Why do you bring charges against me? You have all rebelled against me,” declares the LORD.

Til ingen nytte slo jeg deres sønner, de tok ikke ved lære. Deres eget sverd fortærte deres profeter som en ødeleggende løve.

In vain I have struck your children; they accepted no discipline. Your sword has devoured your prophets like a ravenous lion.

Å dere slekt, legg merke til Herrens ord. Har jeg vært en ørken for Israel eller et land med mørke? Hvorfor sier mitt folk: Vi styrer selv, vi vil ikke komme tilbake til deg?

You people of this generation, consider the word of the LORD: ‘Have I been a wilderness to Israel or a land of deep darkness? Why do my people say, “We are free to roam; we will come to you no more”?’

Glemmer en jomfru sine smykker, en brud sitt brudeutstyr? Men mitt folk har glemt meg dager uten tall.

Can a maiden forget her jewelry or a bride her wedding adornments? Yet my people have forgotten me for days without number.

How skilled you are at pursuing love! Even the worst of women you have taught your ways.

Even on your skirts is found the blood of the innocent poor. You did not find them breaking in, yet it is because of all these things.

Og likevel sier du: Jeg er uskyldig, sikkert har hans vrede vendt seg bort fra meg. Se, jeg vil gå i rette med deg fordi du sier: Jeg har ikke syndet.

Yet you say, 'I am innocent; surely his anger has turned away from me.' But I will bring you to judgment because you say, 'I have not sinned.'

Hvorfor endrer du dine veier så mye for å søke fred? Også fra Egypt skal du bli skuffet, slik du ble skuffet av Assur.

Why do you go about changing your direction so much? You will be disappointed by Egypt as you were by Assyria.

Derfor skal du også forlate dette sted med hendene på hodet. For Herren har forkastet de tillitsforholdene du setter din lit til, og du skal ikke finne fremgang med dem.

You will also leave that place with your hands on your head, for the LORD has rejected those you trust; you will not prosper through them.
