The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD during the days of Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying:

Go to the house of the Rechabites, speak to them, bring them into the house of the LORD, to one of the chambers, and offer them wine to drink.

So I took Jaazaniah son of Jeremiah, son of Habazziniah, his brothers, all his sons, and the entire house of the Rechabites.

And I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was near the chamber of the officials, above the chamber of Maaseiah, son of Shallum, the gatekeeper.

Then I set bowls full of wine and cups before the sons of the house of the Rechabites and said to them, 'Drink wine.'

Men de sa: Vi drikker ikke vin, for Jonadab, sønn av Rekab, vår far, befalte oss og sa: Dere skal ikke drikke vin, verken dere eller deres sønner, til evig tid.

But they said, 'We will not drink wine, for Jonadab, son of Rechab, our ancestor, commanded us, saying: “You and your descendants must never drink wine.”'

Dere skal heller ikke bygge hus eller så såkorn eller plante vingårder eller eie noe av dette, men dere skal bo i telt alle deres dager, for at dere kan leve lenge i det landet hvor dere bor som fremmede.

'You must not build houses, sow seed, plant vineyards, or own any of these things, but instead, live in tents all your days so that you may live long in the land where you sojourn.'

Vi har adlydt vår far Jonadab, sønn av Rekab, i alt han befalte oss: Ikke å drikke vin alle våre dager, vi selv, våre koner, våre sønner og våre døtre,

We have obeyed the voice of Jonadab, son of Rechab, our ancestor, in everything he instructed us, so that we do not drink wine all our days—we, our wives, our sons, and our daughters.

eller å bygge hus til å bo i; vi har heller ikke vingårder eller marker eller såkorn.

We do not build houses to live in, or own vineyards, fields, or seed.

Vi har bodd i telt og har adlydt og gjort alt vår far Jonadab befalte oss.

But we live in tents, and we have obeyed and done everything that Jonadab, our ancestor, commanded us.

Men da Nebukadnesar, kongen av Babel, angrep landet, sa vi: Kom, la oss gå til Jerusalem på grunn av kaldeernes og arameernes hærer, så vi kan bo i Jerusalem.

However, when Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, came up against the land, we said, 'Come, let us go to Jerusalem to escape the army of the Chaldeans and the army of Aram.' So we have lived in Jerusalem.

Da kom Herrens ord til Jeremia og sa:

Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying:

Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Gå og si til Judas menn og Jerusalems innbyggere: Vil dere ikke ta til dere min advarsel og lytte til mine ord, sier Herren?

This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'Go and say to the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: “Will you not accept instruction and obey My words?” declares the LORD.

Jonadab, sønn av Rekab, ga sine sønner et bud om ikke å drikke vin, og de har adlydt, så de ikke har drukket vin den dag i dag. De har adlydt sin fars befaling. Men jeg har talt til dere igjen og igjen, og dere har ikke lyttet til meg.

The words of Jonadab, son of Rechab, which he commanded his sons not to drink wine, have been upheld to this day. They have obeyed their ancestor's command. But I have spoken to you persistently, and you have not listened to Me.

Jeg har sendt til dere alle mine tjenere profetene, tidlig og om igjen, for å si: Vend om, alle mann, fra deres onde vei, og gjør deres gjerninger gode. Gå ikke etter andre guder og tjen dem, så skal dere bo i det landet jeg har gitt dere og deres fedre. Men dere har ikke vendt ørene til meg eller lyttet.

I sent all My servants the prophets to you persistently, saying: 'Turn now, each one of you, from your evil ways and correct your deeds. Do not follow other gods to serve them. Then you shall dwell in the land I have given to you and your ancestors.' But you did not incline your ear or listen to Me.

Sønnene av Jonadab, sønn av Rekab, har holdt sin fars bud, men dette folket har ikke lyttet til meg.

Surely the sons of Jonadab, son of Rechab, have kept the command their ancestor gave them, but these people have not listened to Me.

Derfor sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Se, jeg vil føre alt det vanskelige jeg har talt mot Juda og alle Jerusalems innbyggere. Fordi jeg har talt til dem, men de har ikke lyttet, og jeg har kalt på dem, men de har ikke svart.

Therefore, this is what the LORD, the God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'Behold, I am bringing upon Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the disaster I have spoken against them because I spoke to them, but they did not listen; I called to them, but they did not answer.'

Men til Rekabittene sa Jeremia: Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Fordi dere har adlydt Jonadab, deres fars befaling og holdt alle hans bud og gjort alt han befalte dere,

But to the house of the Rechabites, Jeremiah said: 'This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “Because you have obeyed the command of Jonadab, your ancestor, and have kept all his instructions and done all that he commanded you,”'

derfor sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Jonadabs, Rekabs sønn, etterkommere skal aldri mangle en mann som står foran meg alle dager.

Therefore, this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'Jonadab, son of Rechab, will never lack a man to stand before Me all the days.'
