And now, this command is for you, O priests.

If you do not listen and if you do not take it to heart to honor My name, says the Lord of Hosts, I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Indeed, I have already cursed them because you do not take it to heart.

Behold, I will rebuke your descendants and spread dung on your faces, the dung of your feasts, and it will be carried away with you.

Then you will know that I have sent this command to you so that My covenant with Levi may continue, says the Lord of Hosts.

My covenant with him was one of life and peace, and I gave them to him. It called for reverence, and he revered Me and stood in awe of My name.

True instruction was in his mouth, and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with Me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin.

For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people should seek instruction from his mouth, because he is the messenger of the Lord of Hosts.

But you have turned aside from the way, and by your teaching have caused many to stumble. You have violated the covenant with Levi, says the Lord of Hosts.

So I have also made you despised and humiliated before all the people, because you have not kept My ways but have shown partiality in matters of the law.

Do we not all have one Father? Did not one God create us? Why then do we deal treacherously with one another, profaning the covenant of our ancestors?

Judah has been unfaithful, and an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. Judah has profaned the sanctuary of the Lord, which He loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.

Måtte Herren utrydde fra Jakobs telt enhver som gjør dette, likesom den som kommer med offer til Herren, hærskarenes Gud.

The Lord will cut off from the tents of Jacob anyone who does this—any one who is alert and responsive—but still presents an offering to the Lord of Hosts.

And this is another thing you do: You cover the altar of the Lord with tears, weeping and groaning, because He no longer regards your offering or accepts it with favor from your hands.

Yet you ask, 'Why?' Because the Lord has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have been unfaithful to her, though she is your companion and the wife of your covenant.

Did not God make them one, with a portion of His spirit in their union? And what was the one seeking? Godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and do not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth.

For jeg hater skilsmisse, sier Herren, Israels Gud, og den som dekker plagget sitt med vold, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud. Så ta dere i akt for deres ånd, så dere ikke handler troløst.

For the Lord, the God of Israel, says that He hates divorce, and He covers his garment with violence, says the Lord of Hosts. Therefore, guard yourselves in your spirit, and do not be unfaithful.

Dere har gjort Herren trett med ordene deres. Men dere sier: Hvordan har vi gjort ham trett? Ved å si at de som gjør ondt, er gode i Herrens øyne, og at han har behag i dem, eller ved å spørre: Hvor er rettferdighetens Gud?

You have wearied the Lord with your words. Yet you ask, 'How have we wearied Him?' By saying, 'Everyone who does evil is good in the eyes of the Lord, and He delights in them,' or 'Where is the God of justice?'
