Straks om morgenen holdt øversteprestene råd med de eldste og de skriftlærde og hele rådet, og de bandt Jesus, førte ham bort og overleverte ham til Pilatus.

At once, early in the morning, the chief priests, along with the elders, scribes, and the entire council, held a consultation. They bound Jesus, led Him away, and handed Him over to Pilate.

Pilatus spurte ham: «Er du jødenes konge?» Jesus svarte: «Du sier det.»

Pilate questioned Him, 'Are You the King of the Jews?' Jesus replied, 'You say so.'

Øversteprestene anklaget ham for mange ting, men Jesus svarte ikke.

The chief priests accused Him of many things, but He did not respond.

Da spurte Pilatus ham igjen: «Har du ikke noe å si? Se hvor mye de anklager deg for.»

So Pilate questioned Him again, 'Aren’t You going to answer anything? See how many charges they’re bringing against You.'

Men Jesus svarte ikke et ord, og Pilatus undret seg.

But Jesus no longer answered anything, and Pilate was amazed.

At the festival, Pilate used to release to the people one prisoner whom they requested.

There was a man named Barabbas who was in prison with rebels who had committed murder during an uprising.

The crowd came up and began asking Pilate to do for them as he usually did.

Pilatus svarte: «Vil dere at jeg skal løslate jødenes konge for dere?»

Pilate answered them, 'Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?''

For han visste at det var av misunnelse øversteprestene hadde overgitt Jesus.

For he knew it was because of envy that the chief priests had handed Jesus over.

Men øversteprestene hisset opp folkemengden til heller å be om at Barabbas skulle løslates for dem.

But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release Barabbas instead.

Pilatus spurte dem igjen: «Hva skal jeg da gjøre med ham som dere kaller jødenes konge?»

Pilate asked them a second time, 'Then what do you want me to do with the one you call the King of the Jews?'

De ropte igjen: «Korsfest ham!»

They shouted back, 'Crucify Him!'

Pilatus spurte dem: «Hva ondt har han gjort?» Men de ropte enda høyere: «Korsfest ham!»

Pilate asked them, 'Why? What wrong has He done?' But they shouted all the more, 'Crucify Him!'

Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. After having Jesus flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified.

The soldiers led Him away into the palace (that is, the governor’s headquarters), and they called together the whole company of soldiers.

After they had mocked Him, they took off the purple robe and put His own clothes back on Him. Then they led Him out to crucify Him.

They forced a man named Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the countryside and was the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry His cross.

They brought Him to the place called Golgotha, which is translated as Place of the Skull.

De ga ham vin blandet med myrra, men han tok den ikke.

They offered Him wine mixed with myrrh, but He did not take it.

Then they nailed Him to the cross. They divided His garments by casting lots to decide what each one would take.

Det var den tredje time da de korsfestet ham.

It was nine in the morning when they crucified Him.

Over ham var en innskrift med årsaken til hvorfor han ble dømt: «Jødenes konge.»

The inscription of the charge written against Him read: 'The King of the Jews.'

They crucified two criminals with Him, one on His right and one on His left.

In this way, the Scripture was fulfilled that says, 'He was numbered with the transgressors.'

Those who passed by were hurling insults at Him, shaking their heads and saying, 'Aha! You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,

'save Yourself by coming down from the cross!'

Øversteprestene sammen med de skriftlærde liksom hånte ham og sa til hverandre: «Han frelste andre, seg selv kan han ikke frelse.

In the same way, the chief priests and scribes were mocking Him among themselves, saying, 'He saved others, but He cannot save Himself!

La Kristus, Israels konge, stige ned fra korset nå, så vi kan se og tro.» Også de som var korsfestet sammen med ham, hånte ham.

'Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see and believe!' Even those who were crucified with Him also insulted Him.

Da det ble den sjette timen, kom et mørke over hele landet frem til den niende time.

When it was noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.

Ved den niende time ropte Jesus med høy røst: «Eloi, Eloi, lama sabaktani?» - som betyr: «Min Gud, min Gud, hvorfor har du forlatt meg?»

And at three in the afternoon, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, 'Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?' (which means, 'My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?').

When some of those standing nearby heard this, they said, 'Look, He’s calling Elijah!'

But Jesus let out a loud cry and took His last breath.

Forhenget i tempelet revnet i to fra øverst til nederst.

Then the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

When the centurion, who was standing in front of Jesus, saw how He breathed His last, he said, 'Truly this man was the Son of God!'

Some women were watching from a distance, including Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome.

They had followed Him and cared for His needs in Galilee. Many other women who had come up with Him to Jerusalem were also there.

When it was already evening, because it was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath),

Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the council, who was waiting for the kingdom of God, boldly went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body.

Pilatus ble forundret over at han allerede var død, og tilkalte offiseren for å spørre om Jesus virkelig var død.

Pilate was amazed that He was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died.

Da han hadde fått bekreftet det fra offiseren, ga han legemet til Josef.

When he learned from the centurion that it was so, he granted the body to Joseph.

Josef kjøpte et linklede, tok Jesu legeme ned, svøpte det, og la det i en grav som var hogd ut i en klippe. Så rullet han en stein foran inngangen til graven.

Joseph bought a linen cloth, took Jesus down, wrapped Him in the linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb that had been cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.

Maria Magdalena og Maria, Joses' mor, så hvor han ble lagt.

Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were watching to see where He was placed.
