Etter seks dager tok Jesus med seg Peter, Jakob og Johannes, hans bror. Han førte dem opp på et høyt fjell, hvor de var alene.

After six days, Jesus took Peter, James, and John, the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.

Der ble han forvandlet for deres øyne. Hans ansikt strålte som solen, og hans klær ble hvite som lyset.

There He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.

Og se, Moses og Elia viste seg for dem og samtalte med ham.

Just then, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Jesus.

Da tok Peter til orde og sa til Jesus: 'Herre, det er godt for oss å være her. Om du vil, skal jeg bygge tre hytter her, en til deg, en til Moses og en til Elia.'

Peter said to Jesus, 'Lord, it is good for us to be here. If You wish, I will put up three tents: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.'

Mens han ennå talte, se, en lysende sky kom og overskygget dem. Og en stemme lød fra skyen: 'Dette er min elskede Sønn, i ham har jeg velbehag. Hør på ham!'

While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, 'This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him!'

Da disiplene hørte dette, falt de på ansiktet, grepet av stor frykt.

When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified.

Men Jesus kom bort og rørte ved dem og sa: 'Reis dere opp og frykt ikke.'

But Jesus came and touched them. 'Get up,' He said, 'Don’t be afraid.'

Og da de løftet blikket, så de ingen annen enn Jesus alene.

When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus alone.

Mens de gikk ned fra fjellet, befalte Jesus dem: 'Fortell ingen om synet før Menneskesønnen er oppstått fra de døde.'

As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, 'Do not tell anyone about the vision until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.'

Disiplene spurte ham da: 'Hvorfor sier de skriftlærde at Elia først må komme?'

The disciples asked Him, 'Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?'

Jesus svarte: 'Elia kommer virkelig først og skal gjenopprette alt.'

Jesus replied, 'Indeed, Elijah is coming and will restore all things.

Men jeg sier dere: Elia har allerede kommet, men de kjente ham ikke og gjorde med ham hva de ville. Slik skal også Menneskesønnen lide under dem.'

But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him. Instead, they did to him whatever they pleased. In the same way, the Son of Man is about to suffer at their hands.'

Da forstod disiplene at han talte til dem om døperen Johannes.

Then the disciples understood that He was speaking to them about John the Baptist.

Da de kom til folket, kom en mann bort til ham, falt på kne og sa:

When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before Him.

'Herre, forbarm deg over sønnen min! Han er epileptisk og lider forferdelig. Ofte faller han i ild og ofte i vann.'

and said, 'Lord, have mercy on my son. He has seizures and suffers terribly. He often falls into the fire and into the water.'

Jeg brakte ham til dine disipler, men de kunne ikke helbrede ham.'

I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not heal him.

Da svarte Jesus: 'Å, du vantro og forvanskede slekt! Hvor lenge skal jeg være hos dere? Hvor lenge skal jeg holde ut med dere? Før gutten hit til meg.'

Then Jesus answered, 'O unbelieving and perverse generation, how long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him here to Me.'

Og Jesus truet demonen, og den fór ut av ham. Og gutten ble helbredet fra den stund.

And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was healed from that moment.

Da kom disiplene til Jesus i enrom og spurte: 'Hvorfor kunne ikke vi drive den ut?'

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and asked, 'Why couldn’t we drive it out?'

Han svarte dem: 'På grunn av deres lite tro. Jeg sier dere, hvis dere har tro som et sennepskorn, vil dere si til dette fjellet: Flytt deg herfra over dit, og det skal flytte seg; og ingenting skal være umulig for dere.'

He replied, 'Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.'

Men dette slaget går ikke ut uten ved bønn og faste.

'However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.'

Mens de oppholdt seg i Galilea, sa Jesus til dem: 'Menneskesønnen skal bli overgitt i menneskers hender.'

When they came together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, 'The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.'

De skal drepe ham, og på den tredje dag skal han oppstå. Og de ble dypt bedrøvet.

'They will kill Him, and on the third day He will be raised to life.' And the disciples were deeply grieved.

Da de kom til Kapernaum, gikk de som krevde tempelskatten bort til Peter og sa: 'Betaler ikke mesteren deres tempelskatten?'

When they arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked, 'Doesn’t your Teacher pay the temple tax?'

'Jo,' svarte han. Da han kom inn i huset, kom Jesus ham i forkjøpet og sa: 'Hva mener du, Simon? Hvem krever jordens konger toll eller skatt av, sine egne sønner eller av fremmede?'

'Yes, He does,' Peter replied. When Peter entered the house, Jesus was the first to speak. 'What do you think, Simon?' He asked. 'From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes—from their own sons or from others?'

Peter svarte: 'Av fremmede.' Jesus sa til ham: 'Da er sønnene fri.'

'From others,' Peter answered. 'Then the sons are exempt,' Jesus said to him.

Men for at vi ikke skal støte dem, gå ned til sjøen, kast ut et fiskekrok og ta den første fisken du får. Når du åpner munnen på den, vil du finne en stater. Ta den og gi dem til meg og deg.'

But so that we do not cause them to stumble, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take the first fish you catch. When you open its mouth, you will find a stater coin. Take it and give it to them for My tax and yours.
