Da ble Jesus ført ut i ødemarken av Ånden for å bli fristet av djevelen.

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

Og etter å ha fastet i førti dager og førti netter, ble han til slutt sulten.

After fasting for forty days and forty nights, He was hungry.

Og fristeren kom til ham og sa: «Hvis du er Guds Sønn, så si at disse steinene skal bli til brød.»

Then the tempter approached Him and said, 'If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.'

Men han svarte: «Det står skrevet: Mennesket lever ikke av brød alene, men av hvert ord som går ut av Guds munn.»

But He answered, 'It is written: Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'

Da tok djevelen ham med til den hellige by og satte ham på tempelmuren,

Then the devil took Him to the holy city and set Him on the pinnacle of the temple.

og sa til ham: «Hvis du er Guds Sønn, kast deg ned, for det står skrevet: Han skal gi sine engler påbud om deg, og de skal bære deg på hendene, så du ikke støter foten mot noen stein.»

He said to Him, 'If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down, for it is written: He will command His angels concerning You, and they will lift You up in their hands so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.'

Jesus svarte ham: «Igjen står det skrevet: Du skal ikke friste Herren din Gud.»

Jesus said to him, 'Again it is written: You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'

Igjen førte djevelen ham opp på et meget høyt fjell og viste ham alle verdens riker og deres herlighet,

Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.

og sa til ham: «Dette vil jeg gi deg hvis du faller ned og tilber meg.»

And he said to Him, 'All these I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.'

Da sa Jesus til ham: «Bort med deg, Satan! For det står skrevet: Herren din Gud skal du tilbe, og ham alene skal du tjene.»

Then Jesus said to him, 'Go away, Satan! For it is written: You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.'

Da forlot djevelen ham, og se, engler kom og tjente ham.

Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

Da Jesus fikk høre at Johannes var blitt arrestert, trakk han seg tilbake til Galilea.

When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, He withdrew to Galilee.

Han forlot Nasaret og bosatte seg i Kapernaum ved sjøen, i områdene til Sebulon og Naftali,

Leaving Nazareth, He went and lived in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali.

for at det skulle bli oppfylt som var talt ved Jesaja profeten, som sier:

This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying:

«Sebulons land og Naftalis land, ved veien til sjøen, på den andre siden av Jordan, hedningenes Galilea»

The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—

«folket som satt i mørket, har sett et stort lys, og for dem som satt i dødens skyggeområde, har lyset gått opp.»

The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who were sitting in the region and shadow of death, light has dawned upon them.

Fra da av begynte Jesus å forkynne og si: «Omvend dere, for himmelriket er nær.»

From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.'

Mens Jesus gikk langs Galileasjøen, fikk han se to brødre, Simon som ble kalt Peter, og hans bror Andreas, kaste garn i sjøen, for de var fiskere.

While walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon (called Peter) and Andrew, his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.

Han sa til dem: «Kom og følg meg, så skal jeg gjøre dere til menneskefiskere.»

And He said to them, 'Come, follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.'

De forlot straks garnene og fulgte ham.

Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.

Da han gikk videre derfra, så han to andre brødre, Jakob, sønn av Sebedeus, og hans bror Johannes, i båten sammen med sin far Sebedeus, mens de ordnet garnene sine, og han kalte dem.

Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and He called them.

Og de forlot straks båten og sin far og fulgte ham.

And immediately they left the boat and their father and followed Him.

Jesus dro omkring i hele Galilea, underviste i synagogene deres, forkynte evangeliet om riket og helbredet all sykdom og plage blant folket.

Jesus went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.

Hans ry spredte seg i hele Syria, og de førte til ham alle som hadde det vondt, lidende av forskjellige sykdommer, de som var besatt, de epileptiske og de lamme, og han helbredet dem.

News about Him spread throughout all Syria, and they brought to Him all who were sick, suffering from various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and He healed them.

Store folkemengder fulgte ham fra Galilea og Dekapolis, Jerusalem og Judea og fra den andre siden av Jordan.

Large crowds followed Him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.
