The Israelites are to camp, each by their own standard, with the emblems of their ancestral families. They are to set up their tents facing the Tent of Meeting, surrounding it.

Those camping on the east, toward the sunrise, are to be under the banner of the camp of Judah, according to their divisions. The leader of the descendants of Judah is Nahshon son of Amminadab.
