Let the people of Israel observe the Passover at its appointed time.

På den fjortende dag i den måneden, ved skumringstid, skal dere holde den til sin fastsatte tid, i overensstemmelse med alle dens forskrifter og lover.

On the fourteenth day of this month, at twilight, you shall observe it at its appointed time, following all its statutes and all its regulations.

Så talte Moses til Israels barn at de skulle holde påsken.

So Moses told the people of Israel to keep the Passover.

Og de holdt påske i den første måneden, på den fjortende dagen i måneden, ved skumringstid i Sinai-ørkenen. I samsvar med alt Herren hadde påbudt Moses, gjorde Israels barn.

And they kept the Passover in the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, at twilight, in the wilderness of Sinai, just as the LORD had commanded Moses, so the people of Israel did.

Men det var noen menn som var blitt urene ved kontakt med et lik, og de kunne ikke holde påsken den dagen. De nærmet seg Moses og Aron den dagen,

There were some men who were unclean because of contact with a dead body, and they could not keep the Passover on that day. They came before Moses and Aaron on that day,

og de sa til ham: Vi er urene ved et menneskes liv, hvorfor skal vi bli hindret fra å frembære Herrens offer ved dets fastsatte tid blant Israels barn?

and those men said to him, "We are unclean because of contact with a dead body. Why should we be excluded from presenting the LORD's offering at its appointed time with the rest of the people of Israel?"

Og Moses sa til dem: Vent her, så skal jeg høre hva Herren vil pålegge dere.

Moses said to them, "Wait here, and I will listen for what the LORD will command concerning you."

Og Herren talte til Moses og sa:

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

Tal til Israels barn og si: Hvis noen blant dere eller i deres kommende generasjoner er uren ved et lik eller er på reise langt unna, skal han likevel holde påske for Herren.

Speak to the people of Israel and say: If any one of you or your descendants is unclean because of contact with a dead body, or is on a journey far away, he may still observe the Passover to the LORD.

I den andre måneden, på den fjortende dagen, ved skumringstid, skal de holde den. De skal spise den med usyret brød og bitre urter.

In the second month, on the fourteenth day, at twilight, they shall observe it. They shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

De skal ikke la noe av den bli tilbake til morgenen og ikke bryte noe ben. Etter alle påskens forskrifter skal de holde den.

They shall leave none of it until morning, nor break any of its bones. They shall observe it according to all the statutes of the Passover.

Men den mann som er ren og ikke er på reise, men forsømmer å holde påsken, den personen skal utryddes fra sitt folk, fordi han ikke har frembåret Herrens offer til fastsatt tid. Den mannen skal bære sin synd.

But if anyone who is clean and is not on a journey fails to observe the Passover, that person shall be cut off from his people because he did not present the LORD's offering at its appointed time. That person shall bear his sin.

Og hvis en fremmed bor hos dere og vil holde påsken for Herren, skal han gjøre det etter påskens forskrifter og lover. Det skal være én lov for dere, både for fremmede og for de innfødte i landet.

If a foreigner resides with you and wants to observe the Passover to the LORD, he must do so according to its statute and its ordinance. There shall be one statute for both you and the foreigner who resides among you.

On the day the tabernacle was set up, the cloud covered the tabernacle, which is the tent of the testimony. In the evening, it appeared above the tabernacle as something like fire until morning.

This was always the case: the cloud would cover it by day, and at night it would appear as fire.

Når skyen løftet seg fra teltet, brøt Israels barn opp, og der skyen stoppet, slo Israels barn leir.

Whenever the cloud lifted from above the tent, the people of Israel would set out, and wherever the cloud settled, there the people of Israel would camp.

Etter Herrens befaling brøt Israels barn opp, og etter Herrens befaling slo de leir. Så lenge skyen hvilte over teltet, ble de slått leir.

At the command of the LORD, the people of Israel set out, and at the command of the LORD, they camped. As long as the cloud rested over the tabernacle, they remained camped.

Og når skyen ble over teltet i mange dager, holdt Israels barn Herrens vekter og brøt ikke opp.

Even when the cloud lingered over the tabernacle for many days, the people of Israel kept the LORD’s command and did not set out.

Noen ganger var skyen kun få dager over teltet; etter Herrens befaling slo de leir, og etter Herrens befaling brøt de opp.

Sometimes the cloud remained over the tabernacle for only a few days. In that case, they camped at the LORD's command and then set out at the LORD's command.

Noen ganger ble skyen fra kveld til morgen, og da skyen steg opp om morgenen, brøt de opp. På dag og natt, når skyen ble løftet, brøt de opp.

Sometimes the cloud remained only from evening until morning, and when the cloud lifted in the morning, they set out. Whether by day or by night, when the cloud lifted, they set out.

Enten det var to dager, en måned eller lengre tid skyen ble over teltet for å hvile over det, ble Israels barn slått leir og brøt ikke opp, men når den ble løftet, brøt de opp.

Whether it remained for two days, a month, or longer, as long as the cloud rested over the tabernacle, the people of Israel remained camped and did not set out. But when it lifted, they set out.

Etter Herrens befaling slo de leir, og etter Herrens befaling brøt de opp. Herrens vekter ble holdt etter Herrens befaling ved Moses’ hånd.

At the command of the LORD, they camped, and at the command of the LORD, they set out. They kept the LORD's charge according to the command of the LORD given through Moses.
