And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar-trees, and masons, and carpenters, to build him a house.

Og David innså at Herren hadde stadfestet ham som konge over Israel, for hans rike ble opphøyet for Israels folks skyld.

And David perceived that Jehovah had established him king over Israel; for his kingdom was exalted on high, for his people Israel's sake.

Og David tok flere koner i Jerusalem; og han fikk flere sønner og døtre.

And David took more wives at Jerusalem; and David begat more sons and daughters.

Og dette er navnene på barna han hadde i Jerusalem: Sjammua, Sjobab, Natan og Salomo,

And these are the names of the children whom he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,

og Jibhar, Elisjua og Elpelet,

and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpelet,

og Noga, Nefeg og Jafia,

and Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

og Elisjama, Beeliada og Elifelet.

and Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphelet.

Da filisterne hørte at David var salvet til konge over hele Israel, dro alle filisterne opp for å søke David; og David fikk høre om det og dro ut mot dem.

And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David: and David heard of it, and went out against them.

Filisterne hadde kommet og gjort et angrep i Refa'im-dalen.

Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.

Og David spurte Gud: Skal jeg dra opp mot filisterne? Vil du gi dem i min hånd? Og Herren sa til ham: Dra opp, for jeg vil gi dem i din hånd.

And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into my hand? And Jehovah said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thy hand.

Da dro de opp til Ba'al-Perasim, og David slo dem der; og David sa: Gud har brutt mine fiender ved min hånd, slik vann bryter gjennom. Derfor kalte de stedet Ba'al-Perasim.

So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there; and David said, God hath broken mine enemies by my hand, like the breach of waters. Therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim.

Og de etterlot sine guder der; og David ga ordre om at de skulle brennes med ild.

And they left their gods there; and David gave commandment, and they were burned with fire.

Og filisterne gjorde igjen et angrep i dalen.

And the Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley.

Og David spurte igjen Gud; og Gud sa til ham: Du skal ikke dra opp etter dem, men gå rundt dem og kom over dem på motsatt side av morbærtrærne.

And David inquired again of God; and God said unto him, Thou shalt not go up after them: turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry-trees.

Og det skal skje, når du hører lyden av skritt i toppen av morbærtrærne, da skal du gå ut i strid; for Gud har gått ut foran deg for å slå filisternes hær.

And it shall be, when thou hearest the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry-trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle; for God is gone out before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.

Og David gjorde som Gud befalte ham, og de slo filisternes hær fra Gibeon til Gezer.

And David did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.

Og Davids ry nådde ut i alle land; og Herren la frykt for ham på alle nasjoner.

And the fame of David went out into all lands; and Jehovah brought the fear of him upon all nations.
