Når det gjelder tjenesten for de hellige, er det unødvendig for meg å skrive til dere,

For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you:

for jeg vet om deres villighet, som jeg roser dere for ovenfor dem i Makedonia, at Akaia har vært forberedt i et år allerede; og deres iver har inspirert mange av dem.

for I know your readiness, of which I glory on your behalf to them of Macedonia, that Achaia hath been prepared for a year past; and your zeal hath stirred up very many of them.

Men jeg har sendt brødrene, for at vår ros av dere ikke skal bli gjort til skamme i denne sammenheng; at dere, slik jeg sa, kan være forberedt:

But I have sent the brethren, that our glorying on your behalf may not be made void in this respect; that, even as I said, ye may be prepared:

for at vi ikke, hvis noen fra Makedonia kommer med meg og finner dere uforberedt, skal bli gjort til skamme i vår tillit - for ikke å si, dere.

lest by any means, if there come with me any of Macedonia and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, ye) should be put to shame in this confidence.

Derfor mente jeg det nødvendig å be brødrene gå i forveien til dere, og forberede den tidligere lovede gaven, slik at den kan være klar som en viljeakt, og ikke som tvang.

I thought it necessary therefore to entreat the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your aforepromised bounty, that the same might be ready as a matter of bounty, and not of extortion.

Men dette sier jeg: Den som sår sparsomt, skal også høste sparsomt; og den som sår rikelig, skal også høste rikelig.

But this `I say,' He that soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he that soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

La hver mann gjøre som han har bestemt i sitt hjerte, ikke med motvilje eller av tvang: for Gud elsker en glad giver.

`Let' each man `do' according as he hath purposed in his heart: not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Og Gud er i stand til å la all nåde være rikelig over dere, slik at dere alltid har alt dere trenger, og at dere kan rikelig gjøre all god gjerning;

And God is able to make all grace abound unto you; that ye, having always all sufficiency in everything, may abound unto every good work:

som det står skrevet: Han har spredt det, han har gitt til de fattige; hans rettferdighet varer evig.

as it is written, He hath scattered abroad, he hath given to the poor; His righteousness abideth for ever.

Og han som gir såkorn til den som sår, og brød til å spise, skal også gi og mangedoble deres såkorn, og øke fruktene av deres rettferdighet;

And he that supplieth seed to the sower and bread for food, shall supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousness:

dere blir beriket i alt til all gavmildhet, som gjennom oss bringer takksigelse til Gud.

ye being enriched in everything unto all liberality, which worketh through us thanksgiving to God.

For utførelsen av denne tjenesten dekker ikke bare de helliges behov, men gir også overflod av mange takksigelser til Gud;

For the ministration of this service not only filleth up the measure of the wants of the saints, but aboundeth also through many thanksgivings unto God;

da de gjennom deres tjeneste hedrer Gud for lydigheten av deres bekjennelse til Kristi evangelium, og for deres gavmildhet i bidragene til dem og til alle andre;

seeing that through the proving `of you' by this ministration they glorify God for the obedience of your confession unto the gospel of Christ, and for the liberality of `your' contribution unto them and unto all;

mens de selv også, med bønn for dere, lengter etter dere på grunn av Guds overveldende nåde i dere.

while they themselves also, with supplication on your behalf, long after you by reason of the exceeding grace of God in you.
