Og nå, Israel, hør på forskriftene og dommene som jeg lærer dere, så dere skal gjøre dem, for at dere kan leve og gå inn og ta landet som Herren, deres fedres Gud, gir dere.

And now, O Israel, hearken unto the statutes and unto the ordinances, which I teach you, to do them; that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which Jehovah, the God of your fathers, giveth you.

Dere skal ikke legge noe til det ordet jeg befaler dere, og heller ikke trekke noe fra det, for at dere må holde Herrens, deres Guds, bud som jeg befaler dere.

Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish from it, that ye may keep the commandments of Jehovah your God which I command you.

Dere har sett hva Herren gjorde på grunn av Ba'al-Peor, for alle mennene som fulgte Ba'al-Peor, dem tilintetgjorde Herren din Gud fra blant dere.

Your eyes have seen what Jehovah did because of Baal-peor; for all the men that followed Baal-peor, Jehovah thy God hath destroyed them from the midst of thee.

Men dere som holdt fast ved Herren deres Gud, er alle i live i dag.

But ye that did cleave unto Jehovah your God are alive every one of you this day.

Se, jeg har lært dere forskrifter og dommer, slik som Herren min Gud befalte meg, så dere skal gjøre slik i landet dere går inn for å ta det i eie.

Behold, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, even as Jehovah my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the midst of the land whither ye go in to possess it.

Dere skal holde dem og gjøre dem; for i folkets øyne er dette deres visdom og forstand. De som hører alle disse forskriftene, skal si: Sannelig, dette store folket er et vis og forstandig folk.

Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, that shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

For hvilket stort folk er det som har en gud så nær seg som Herren vår Gud er, når vi kaller på ham?

For what great nation is there, that hath a god so nigh unto them, as Jehovah our God is whensoever we call upon him?

Og hvilket stort folk er det som har forskrifter og dommer så rettferdige som hele denne loven som jeg legger fram for dere i dag?

And what great nation is there, that hath statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

Bare pass på deg selv og vær ivrig med å bevare din sjel, så du ikke glemmer de tingene dine øyne har sett, og så de ikke viker fra ditt hjerte alle dager i ditt liv. Du skal kunngjøre dem for dine barn og dine barnsbarn.

Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes saw, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life; but make them known unto thy children and thy children's children;

Den dagen da du stod foran Herren din Gud ved Horeb, da Herren sa til meg: Samle folket til meg, så jeg kan la dem høre mine ord, så de lærer å frykte meg alle dager de lever på jorden, og så de lærer sine barn.

the day that thou stoodest before Jehovah thy God in Horeb, when Jehovah said unto me, Assemble me the people, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.

Og dere kom nær og stod ved foten av fjellet. Og fjellet brant med ild til himmelens hjerte, med mørke, skyer og tykt mørke.

And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the heart of heaven, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness.

Og Herren talte til dere midt ut av ilden: Dere hørte lyden av ordene, men så ingen skikkelse; bare en stemme.

And Jehovah spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of words, but ye saw no form; only `ye heard' a voice.

Og han kunngjorde sin pakt for dere, som han befalte dere å oppfylle, de ti bud; og han skrev dem på to steintavler.

And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even the ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.

Og Herren befalte meg på den tiden å lære dere forskrifter og dommer, så dere skal gjøre dem i landet dere går over til for å ta det i eie.

And Jehovah commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and ordinances, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it.

Pass derfor godt på dere selv; for dere så ingen skikkelse den dagen da Herren talte til dere ved Horeb midt ut av ilden.

Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of form on the day that Jehovah spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire.

For at dere ikke skal ødelegge dere selv og lage noen utskåret billedstatue i form av noe, i likhet med mann eller kvinne,

Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

likent av noe dyr som er på jorden, likent av noen vinget fugl som flyr i himmelen,

the likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flieth in the heavens,

likent av noe som kryper på jorden, likent av noen fisk i vannet under jorden.

the likeness of anything that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth;

Og for at du ikke skal løfte blikket mot himmelen og når du ser solen, månen og stjernene, hele himmelens hær, bli drevet til å tilbe dem og tjene dem, som Herren din Gud har tildelt til alle folk under hele himmelen.

and lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the host of heaven, thou be drawn away and worship them, and serve them, which Jehovah thy God hath allotted unto all the peoples under the whole heaven.

Men Herren har tatt dere og ført dere ut av jernsmelteovnen, ut av Egypt, for å være et folk til arvelodd for ham, som det er i dag.

But Jehovah hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as at this day.

Videre ble Herren vred på meg for deres skyld, og sverget at jeg ikke skulle gå over Jordan, og at jeg ikke skulle komme inn i det gode landet, som Herren din Gud gir deg som arv.

Furthermore Jehovah was angry with me for your sakes, and sware that I should not go over the Jordan, and that I should not go in unto that good land, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance:

Men jeg må dø i dette landet; jeg får ikke gå over Jordan. Men dere skal gå over og ta det gode landet i eie.

but I must die in this land, I must not go over the Jordan; but ye shall go over, and possess that good land.

Pass dere, så dere ikke glemmer den pakten Herren deres Gud gjorde med dere, og lager en utskåret skikkelse i form av noe, som Herren din Gud har forbudt deg.

Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of Jehovah your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image in the form of anything which Jehovah thy God hath forbidden thee.

For Herren din Gud er en fortærende ild, en nidkjær Gud.

For Jehovah thy God is a devouring fire, a jealous God.

Når du får barn og barnebarn, og dere har bodd lenge i landet, og dere ødelegger dere selv og lager et utskåret bilde i form av noe, og gjør det som er ondt i Herrens din Guds øyne, for å vekke hans vrede,

When thou shalt beget children, and children's children, and ye shall have been long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image in the form of anything, and shall do that which is evil in the sight of Jehovah thy God, to provoke him to anger;

kaller jeg i dag himmelen og jorden til vitne mot dere, at dere raskt skal bli fullstendig ødelagt fra det landet dere går over Jordan for å ta i eie. Dere skal ikke forlenge dagene der, men skal fullstendig bli ødelagt.

I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over the Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.

Og Herren skal spre dere blant folkeslagene, og dere skal bli igjen i et lite antall blant nasjonene, der Herren skal føre dere bort.

And Jehovah will scatter you among the peoples, and ye shall be left few in number among the nations, whither Jehovah shall lead you away.

Og der skal dere tjene guder, menneskers håndverk, tre og stein, som verken ser, hører, spiser eller lukter.

And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

Men derifra skal du søke Herren din Gud, og du skal finne ham når du leter etter ham med hele ditt hjerte og hele din sjel.

But from thence ye shall seek Jehovah thy God, and thou shalt find him, when thou searchest after him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

Når du er i trengsel, og alle disse tingene kommer over deg, i de siste dager, skal du vende tilbake til Herren din Gud og høre på hans stemme.

When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, in the latter days thou shalt return to Jehovah thy God, and hearken unto his voice:

For Herren din Gud er en barmhjertig Gud. Han vil ikke svikte deg eller ødelegge deg, og han vil ikke glemme pakten med dine fedre som han sverget til dem.

for Jehovah thy God is a merciful God; he will not fail thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

For spør nå om de dagene som har vært før deg, fra den dagen Gud skapte mennesket på jorden, og fra den ene enden av himmelen til den andre, om det har vært noe så stort som dette, eller om noe slikt noen gang har blitt hørt?

For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and from the one end of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been `any such thing' as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it?

Har noe folk noen gang hørt Guds stemme tale midt ut av ilden, som du har hørt, og levd?

Did ever a people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?

Eller har Gud noen gang prøvd å gå og ta seg en nasjon ut av en annen nasjon, ved prøvelser, ved tegn og under, og ved krig, og ved sterk hånd og utstrakt arm, og ved store redsler, i samsvar med alt det Herren deres Gud gjorde for dere i Egypt foran øynene deres?

Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of `another' nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that Jehovah your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

For deg ble det vist, så du skulle vite at Herren er Gud; det finnes ingen andre ved siden av ham.

Unto thee it was showed, that thou mightest know that Jehovah he is God; there is none else besides him.

Fra himmelen lot han deg høre sin stemme, for å instruere deg: og på jorden lot han deg se sin store ild; og du hørte hans ord fra midt i ilden.

Out of heaven he made thee to hear his voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth he made thee to see his great fire; and thou heardest his words out of the midst of the fire.

Og fordi han elsket dine fedre, derfor valgte han deres slekt etter dem, og førte deg ut med sitt nærvær, med sin store kraft, ut av Egypt.

And because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought thee out with his presence, with his great power, out of Egypt;

For å drive ut folkeslag større og mektigere enn deg for ditt ansikt, for å bringe deg inn og gi deg deres land som arv, slik det er i dag.

to drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as at this day.

Vit derfor i dag, og legg det på hjertet, at Herren er Gud i himmelen over og på jorden nedenfor; det finnes ingen andre.

Know therefore this day, and lay it to thy heart, that Jehovah he is God in heaven above and upon the earth beneath; there is none else.

Og du skal holde hans forskrifter og hans bud, som jeg befaler deg i dag, for at det skal gå deg vel og dine barn etter deg, og for at du skal forlenge dine dager i landet som Herren din Gud gir deg for alltid.

And thou shalt keep his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days in the land, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, for ever.

Deretter satte Moses tre byer på den andre siden av Jordan, mot soloppgangen,

Then Moses set apart three cities beyond the Jordan toward the sunrising;

for at drapsmannen kunne flykte dit, den som drepte sin nabo uten forsett, og ikke hatet ham tidligere; og som flyktet til en av disse byene kunne leve:

that the manslayer might flee thither, that slayeth his neighbor unawares, and hated him not in time past; and that fleeing unto one of these cities he might live:

nemlig Bezer i ødemarken på slettelandet for rubenittene; og Ramot i Gilead for gadittene; og Golan i Basan for manasittene.

`namely', Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, for the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, for the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.

Og dette er loven som Moses la fram for Israels barn:

And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel:

Dette er vitnesbyrdene, forskriftene og dommene som Moses talte til Israels barn, da de dro ut fra Egypt,

these are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which Moses spake unto the children of Israel, when they came forth out of Egypt,

på den andre siden av Jordan, i dalen rett imot Bet-Peor, i landet til Sihon, amorittenes konge, som bodde i Heshbon, som Moses og Israels barn slo da de dro ut fra Egypt.

beyond the Jordan, in the valley over against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote, when they came forth out of Egypt.

Og de tok hans land i eie, og landet til Og, kongen av Basan, de to kongene av amorittene, som var på den andre siden av Jordan mot soloppgangen;

And they took his land in possession, and the land of Og king of Bashan, the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan toward the sunrising;

fra Aroer, som ligger på kanten av Arnon-dalen, helt til fjellet Sion (det samme som Hermon),

from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, even unto mount Sion (the same is Hermon),

og hele Arabasletten på den andre siden av Jordan østover, til Arabahavet, under skråningene av Pisga.

and all the Arabah beyond the Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the Arabah, under the slopes of Pisgah.
