Alle budene som jeg befaler deg i dag, skal dere vareta og følge, så dere kan leve og bli mange og gå inn og ta landet i eie som Herren lovte deres fedre.

All the commandment which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which Jehovah sware unto your fathers.

Og du skal huske hele veien som Herren din Gud har ledet deg disse førti årene i ørkenen, for å ydmyke deg, prøve deg, for å vite hva som var i ditt hjerte, om du ville holde hans bud eller ikke.

And thou shalt remember all the way which Jehovah thy God hath led thee these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble thee, to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or not.

Han ydmyket deg og lot deg sulte, og han mettet deg med manna, som du ikke kjente og som dine fedre ikke kjente, for å la deg forstå at mennesket ikke lever av brød alene, men av hvert ord som kommer fra Herrens munn.

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by everything that proceedeth out of the mouth of Jehovah doth man live.

Klærne dine ble ikke utslitt, og føttene dine hovnet ikke opp disse førti årene.

Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.

Og hjertet ditt skal forstå at, som en mann revser sin sønn, slik revser Herren din Gud deg.

And thou shalt consider in thy heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so Jehovah thy God chasteneth thee.

Og du skal holde Herren din Guds bud, så du vandrer på hans veier og frykter ham.

And thou shalt keep the commandments of Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.

For Herren din Gud fører deg inn i et godt land, et land med bekker av vann, kilder og dyp som strømmer fram i daler og fjell,

For Jehovah thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills;

et land med hvete og bygg, med vintrær, fikentrær og granatepler, et land med oljetrær og honning,

a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig-trees and pomegranates; a land of olive-trees and honey;

et land hvor du skal spise brød uten knapphet og ikke mangle noe, et land hvis steiner er jern, og fra hvis fjell du kan utvinne kobber.

a land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig copper.

Og du skal spise og bli mett, og du skal prise Herren din Gud for det gode landet han har gitt deg.

And thou shalt eat and be full, and thou shalt bless Jehovah thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.

Vokt deg så du ikke glemmer Herren din Gud ved ikke å holde hans bud, forordninger og lover, som jeg befaler deg i dag,

Beware lest thou forget Jehovah thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command thee this day:

så når du har spist og er mett og har bygd gode hus og bor i dem,

lest, when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;

og flokkene dine av stor- og småfe øker, og sølv og gull øker, og alt du har øker,

and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;

at ditt hjerte ikke da blir hovmodig, slik at du glemmer Herren din Gud som førte deg ut av Egypt, trellehuset.

then thy heart be lifted up, and thou forget Jehovah thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;

Han som ledet deg gjennom den store og fryktelige ørkenen med ildslanger og skorpioner, et tørt land uten vann, som hentet vann for deg fra klippe som flint,

who led thee through the great and terrible wilderness, `wherein were' fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty ground where was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;

som mettet deg med manna i ørkenen, noe dine fedre ikke kjente, for å ydmyke deg og for å prøve deg, for til sist å gjøre godt mot deg,

who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not; that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end:

så du ikke skal si i hjertet ditt: Min egen kraft og min egen hånds styrke har skaffet meg denne rikdommen.

and `lest' thou say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand hath gotten me this wealth.

Men husk Herren din Gud; for det er han som gir deg kraft til å vinne rikdom, for å stadfeste sin pakt som han sverget til dine fedre, slik han gjør i dag.

But thou shalt remember Jehovah thy God, for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth; that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as at this day.

Men hvis du glemmer Herren din Gud, og følger andre guder, og dyrker dem og tilber dem, advarer jeg dere i dag om at dere helt sikkert vil gå til grunne.

And it shall be, if thou shalt forget Jehovah thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.

Som nasjonene som Herren lar gå til grunne foran dere, slik skal dere gå til grunne fordi dere ikke ville høre på Herren deres Guds røst.

As the nations that Jehovah maketh to perish before you, so shall ye perish; because ye would not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah your God.
