The sons of Japheth: Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.

Sønnene til Gomer var Askenas, Rifat og Togarma.

And the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.

Sønnene til Javan var Elisja, Tarsis, Kittim og Dodanim.

And the sons of Javan: Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.

Fra disse ble havfolkene spredt i sine land, hver etter sitt språk, etter sine familier, i sine nasjoner.

Of these were the isles of the nations divided in their lands, every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

Sønnene til Ham var Kusj, Misrajim, Put og Kanaan.

And the sons of Ham: Cush, and Mizraim, and Put, and Canaan.

Sønnene til Kusj var Seba, Havila, Sabta, Rama og Sabteka; og sønnene til Rama var Saba og Dedan.

And the sons of Cush: Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabteca; and the sons of Raamah: Sheba, and Dedan.

Kusj fikk Nimrod; han begynte å bli en mektig mann på jorden.

And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.

Han var en mektig jeger for Herren; derfor sier man: Som Nimrod, en mektig jeger for Herren.

He was a mighty hunter before Jehovah: wherefore it is said, Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before Jehovah.

Begynnelsen på hans rike var Babel, Erek, Akkad og Kalne i landet Sinear.

And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

Fra dette landet dro han til Assur og bygget Ninive, Rehobot-Ir og Kalak,

Out of that land he went forth into Assyria, and builded Nineveh, and Rehoboth-ir, and Calah,

og Resen mellom Ninive og Kalak; det er den store byen.

and Resen between Nineveh and Calah (the same is the great city).

Misrajim fikk Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim og Naftuhim,

And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim,

og Patrusim og Kasluhim (fra dem kom filisterne), og Kaftorim.

and Pathrusim, and Casluhim (whence went forth the Philistines), and Caphtorim.

Kanaan fikk Sidon, sin førstefødte, og Het,

And Canaan begat Sidon his first-born, and Heth,

og jebusittene, amorittene og girgasittene,

and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite,

og hivittene, arkittene og sinittene,

and the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite,

og arvadittene, semarittene og hamatittene; deretter spredte kanaaneerens familier seg.

and the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanite spread abroad.

Grensen for kanaaneerne var fra Sidon, mot Gerar, like til Gaza; og mot Sodoma og Gomorra, Adma og Sebojim, til Lasa.

And the border of the Canaanite was from Sidon, as thou goest toward Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest toward Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboiim, unto Lasha.

These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, in their nations.

Også Sem, far til alle Ebers barn, og eldre bror til Jafet, fikk barn.

And unto Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the elder brother of Japheth, to him also were children born.

Sønnene til Sem var Elam, Assur, Arpaksjad, Lud og Aram.

The sons of Shem: Elam, and Asshur, and Arpachshad, and Lud, and Aram.

Sønnene til Aram var Us, Hul, Geter og Masj.

And the sons of Aram: Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.

Arpaksjad fikk Sjelah, og Sjelah fikk Eber.

And Arpachshad begat Shelah; and Shelah begat Eber.

Eber fikk to sønner: Den ene het Peleg, for i hans dager ble jorden delt, og hans bror het Joktan.

And unto Eber were born two sons: The name of the one was Peleg. For in his days was the earth divided. And his brother's name was Joktan.

Joktan fikk Almodad, Sjelef, Hasarmavet og Jerah,

And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah,

og Hadoram, Usal og Dikla,

and Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah,

og Obal, Abimael og Saba,

and Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba,

og Ofir, Havila og Jobab; alle disse var Joktans sønner.

and Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan.

Deres bosted var fra Mesja, mot Sefar, fjellet i øst.

And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest toward Sephar, the mountain of the east.
