And they said, Come, let us build us a city, and a tower, whose top `may reach' unto heaven, and let us make us a name; lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

Da steg Herren ned for å se byen og tårnet som menneskene bygde.

And Jehovah came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

Herren sa: Se, de er ett folk og de har alle samme språk. Dette er bare begynnelsen på det de vil gjøre. Nå vil ingenting være umulig for dem, uansett hva de planlegger.

And Jehovah said, Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is what they begin to do: and now nothing will be withholden from them, which they purpose to do.

Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

Så spredte Herren dem derfra over hele jorden, og de stoppet å bygge byen.

So Jehovah scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off building the city.

Abram og Nahor tok seg koner. Navnet på Abrams kone var Sarai, og navnet på Nahors kone var Milka, datter av Haran, far til Milka og Iska.

And Abram and Nahor took them wives: The name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

Sarai var barnløs og hadde ingen barn.

And Sarai was barren; She had no child.

Tarah tok med seg sin sønn Abram, sitt barnebarn Lot, sønn av Haran, og sin svigerdatter Sarai, Abrams kone. De dro ut sammen fra Ur i Kaldea for å dra til Kanaans land, men de kom til Haran og bosatte seg der.

And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

Tarah levde i to hundre og fem år, og så døde han i Haran.

And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
