And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker offended their lord the king of Egypt.

And Pharaoh was wroth against his two officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.

Han satte dem i varetekt i huset til høvdingen for livvakten, i fengselet der Josef var.

And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.

Høvdingen for livvakten satte Josef til å ta seg av dem, og han betjente dem. De var lenge i varetekt.

And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he ministered unto them: and they continued a season in ward.

Begge hadde en drøm, hver sin drøm i en og samme natt, hver med sin egen tydning; både skjenkeren og bakeren til kongen i Egypt som var i fengsel.

And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream, in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were bound in the prison.

Da Josef kom til dem om morgenen, så han at de var triste.

And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and saw them, and, behold, they were sad.

Han spurte faraos embetsmenn som var i varetekt i husbonden hans hus: "Hvorfor ser dere så triste ut i dag?"

And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in ward in his master's house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sad to-day?

De svarte ham: "Vi har hatt en drøm, men det er ingen som kan tyde den." Da sa Josef til dem: "Hører ikke tydninger Gud til? Fortell dem til meg, vær så snill."

And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell it me, I pray you.

Og sjefen for skjenkerne fortalte sin drøm til Josef og sa: "I min drøm, se, en vinstokk var foran meg.

And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;

På vinstokken var det tre grener, og den knoppet seg, blomstrene sprang ut, og klasene modnet til druer.

and in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, `and' its blossoms shot forth; `and' the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:

Faraos beger var i min hånd; jeg tok druene og presset dem i faraos beger. Så ga jeg begeret til faraos hånd."

and Pharaoh's cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.

Josef sa til ham: "Dette er tydningen av det: De tre grenene er tre dager.

And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: the three branches are three days;

Om tre dager skal farao løfte ditt hode og gjeninnsette deg i ditt embete; og du skal gi farao begeret i hans hånd som tidligere da du var hans skjenker.

within yet three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head, and restore thee unto thine office: and thou shalt give Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.

Men husk meg når det går deg godt, og vis godhet mot meg, vær så snill, og tal om meg for farao, og få meg ut av dette huset.

But have me in thy remembrance when it shall be well with thee, and show kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:

For jeg ble faktisk stjålet bort fra hebreernes land, og heller ikke her har jeg gjort noe som skulle få meg kastet i denne grøften."

for indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.

Da sjefen for bakerne så at tydningen var god, sa han til Josef: "Jeg hadde også en drøm, og se, tre kurver med hvitt brød var på hodet mitt.

When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, three baskets of white bread were on my head:

I den øverste kurven var det alle slags bakverk for farao, og fuglene åt dem fra kurven på hodet mitt."

and in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of baked food for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.

Josef svarte og sa: "Dette er tydningen av det: De tre kurvene er tre dager.

And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: the three baskets are three days;

Om tre dager skal farao løfte ditt hode av deg og henge deg på et tre, og fuglene skal ete kjøttet ditt."

within yet three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.

På den tredje dagen, som var faraos fødselsdag, laget han en fest for alle sine tjenere. Han løftet opp hodet til både skjenkeren og bakeren blant sine tjenere.

And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and the head of the chief baker among his servants.

Han gjeninnsatte sjefen for skjenkerne i hans embete igjen, og han ga begeret til faraos hånd.

And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand:

Men sjefen for bakerne hang han, slik Josef hadde tydet for dem.

but he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them.

Men sjefen for skjenkerne husket ikke på Josef, men glemte ham.

Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.
