Israel dro av sted med alt han eide og kom til Be’er-Sjeba, der han ofret til Gud, sin far Isaks Gud.

And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beer-sheba, and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac.

Gud talte til Israel i nattens syner og sa: «Jakob, Jakob.» Og han svarte: «Her er jeg.»

And God spake unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I.

Gud sa: «Jeg er Gud, din fars Gud. Vær ikke redd for å dra ned til Egypt, for der vil jeg gjøre deg til et stort folk.

And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation:

I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.

Jakob dro fra Be’er-Sjeba, og Israels sønner tok sin far Jakob, sine små barn og sine hustruer i vogner som farao hadde sendt for å hente ham.

And Jacob rose up from Beer-sheba: and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.

Sønnene til Simeon var Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Sohar og Saul, sønn av en kanaanittisk kvinne.

And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman.

Sønnene til Levi var Gershon, Kohat og Merari.

And the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

Sønnene til Juda var Er, Onan, Sjelah, Peres og Serah, men Er og Onan døde i Kanaans land. Peres' sønner var Hesron og Hamul.

And the sons of Judah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

Sønnene til Issakar var Tola, Puvva, Job og Sjimron.

And the sons of Issachar: Tola, and Puvah, and Iob, and Shimron.

Sønnene til Sebulon var Sered, Elon og Jahleel.

And the sons of Zebulun: Sered, and Elon, and Jahleel.

Dette var Leas sønner, som hun fødte til Jakob i Paddan-Aram, sammen med hans datter Dina. Totalt var det trettitre barn og barnebarn.

Sønnene til Naftali var Jahseel, Guni, Jeser og Sjillem.

And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem.

These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave unto Rachel his daughter, and these she bare unto Jacob: all the souls were seven.

and the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two souls: all the souls of the house of Jacob, that came into Egypt, were threescore and ten.

Han sendte Juda i forveien til Josef for å føre veien til Gosjen, og de kom til landet Gosjen.

And he sent Judah before him unto Joseph, to show the way before him unto Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen.

Josef gjorde sin vogn klar og reiste for å møte sin far Israel i Gosjen. Da han traff ham, falt han om halsen hans og gråt lenge.

And Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen; and he presented himself unto him, and fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.

Israel sa til Josef: «Nå kan jeg dø, siden jeg har sett ansiktet ditt og vet at du fortsatt lever.»

And Israel said unto Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen thy face, that thou art yet alive.

Josef sa til brødrene sine og til hele sin fars hus: «Jeg vil dra opp og fortelle farao og si til ham: ‘Mine brødre og min fars hus, som var i Kanaans land, er kommet til meg.

And Joseph said unto his brethren, and unto his father's house, I will go up, and tell Pharaoh, and will say unto him, My brethren, and my father's house, who were in the land of Canaan, are come unto me;

Disse mennene er gjetere, for de har vært dyreholdere; de har brakt med seg buskapen sin og alt de eier.’

and the men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.

Når farao kaller dere og spør: 'Hva er deres yrke?'

And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say, What is your occupation?

skal dere svare: 'Dine tjenere har vært dyreholdere fra ungdommen av til nå, både vi og våre fedre,' slik at dere kan bo i landet Gosjen. For alle gjetere er en styggedom for egypterne.»

that ye shall say, Thy servants have been keepers of cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.
