Send lammene til landets hersker fra Sela ut i ørkenen, til Sions datters fjell.

Send ye the lambs for the ruler of the land from Selah to the wilderness, unto the mount of the daughter of Zion.

For slik som fugler på flukt, som et spredt rede, slik skal Moabs døtre være ved Arnons vadesteder.

For it shall be that, as wandering birds, as a scattered nest, so shall the daughters of Moab be at the fords of the Arnon.

Gi råd, utfør rettferdighet; gjør din skygge som natten midt på dagen; skjul de landflyktige; svik ikke den flyktende.

Give counsel, execute justice; make thy shade as the night in the midst of the noonday; hide the outcasts; betray not the fugitive.

La mine landflyktige bo hos deg; som for Moab, vær i dekning for ham mot ødeleggerens ansikt. For utpresseren er brakt til intet, ødeleggelse har opphørt, undertrykkerne er utryddet fra landet.

Let mine outcasts dwell with thee; as for Moab, be thou a covert to him from the face of the destroyer. For the extortioner is brought to nought, destruction ceaseth, the oppressors are consumed out of the land.

Og en trone skal stiftes i kjærlighet; en skal sitte der i sannhet, i Davids telt, dømme, søke rettferdighet og være rask til å gjøre rett.

And a throne shall be established in lovingkindness; and one shall sit thereon in truth, in the tent of David, judging, and seeking justice, and swift to do righteousness.

Vi har hørt om Moabs stolthet, at han er meget stolt; om hans overmot, stolthet og vrede; hans skryt er ingenting.

We have heard of the pride of Moab, `that' he is very proud; even of his arrogancy, and his pride, and his wrath; his boastings are nought.

Derfor skal Moab klage for Moab, alle skal klage; for rosinkakerne fra Kir-Hareseth skal dere sørge, helt slått ned.

Therefore shall Moab wail for Moab, every one shall wail: for the raisin-cakes of Kir-hareseth shall ye mourn, utterly stricken.

For markerne i Hesjbon og vintreet i Sibma visner; herskerne over folkeslagene har brutt ned de fineste grener, som nådde helt til Jaeser, som spredte seg ut i ørkenen; dens skudd spredte seg, de passerte over havet.

For the fields of Heshbon languish, `and' the vine of Sibmah; the lords of the nations have broken down the choice branches thereof, which reached even unto Jazer, which wandered into the wilderness; its shoots were spread abroad, they passed over the sea.

Derfor vil jeg gråte med Jaesers gråt for Sibmas vintre; jeg vil vanne deg med mine tårer, Hesjbon og Eleale; for over dine sommerfrukter og over din høst har krigsropet falt.

Therefore I will weep with the weeping of Jazer for the vine of Sibmah; I will water thee with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: for upon thy summer fruits and upon thy harvest the `battle' shout is fallen.

Og gleden er tatt bort, og fryd fra den fruktbare marken; i vingårdene skal det ikke være sang, heller ikke jubel; ingen vintråkker skal tråkke ut vin i pressene; jeg har fått vinhøstens rop til å opphøre.

And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the fruitful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither joyful noise: no treader shall tread out wine in the presses; I have made the `vintage' shout to cease.

Derfor lyder mitt hjerte som en harpe for Moab, og mine innvoller for Kir-Heres.

Wherefore my heart soundeth like a harp for Moab, and mine inward parts for Kir-heres.

Og det skal skje når Moab fremstiller seg selv, når han sliter seg ut på høyden, og kommer til sitt helligdom for å be, at han ikke skal seire.

And it shall come to pass, when Moab presenteth himself, when he wearieth himself upon the high place, and shall come to his sanctuary to pray, that he shall not prevail.

Dette er ordet som Herren talte om Moab i eldre tid.

This is the word that Jehovah spake concerning Moab in time past.

Men nå har Herren talt og sagt: Om tre år, som en leiekars år, skal Moabs ære bli til skam med hele hans store forsamling; og de som blir igjen, skal være meget få og uten betydning.

But now Jehovah hath spoken, saying, Within three years, as the years of a hireling, the glory of Moab shall be brought into contempt, with all his great multitude; and the remnant shall be very small and of no account.
