Men på den første dag i uken, veldig tidlig om morgenen, kom de til graven med de velluktende urtene de hadde forberedt.

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came unto the tomb, bringing the spices which they had prepared.

Og de fant steinen rullet bort fra graven.

And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.

Da de gikk inn, fant de ikke Herrens, Jesu, kropp.

And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

Og det skjedde, mens de undret seg over dette, at to menn i strålende klær sto ved siden av dem.

And it came to pass, while they were perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel:

De ble forferdet og bøyde ansiktene mot jorden, og mennene sa til dem: Hvorfor leter dere etter den levende blant de døde?

and as they were affrighted and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?

Han er ikke her, men han er oppstått; husk hvordan han talte til dere mens han ennå var i Galilea,

He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,

og sa: Menneskesønnen må overgis i syndige menneskers hender, korsfestes og reise seg igjen på den tredje dag.

saying that the Son of man must be delivered up into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

Da husket de hans ord,

And they remembered his words,

og de vendte tilbake fra graven og fortalte alt dette til de elleve og til alle de andre.

and returned from the tomb, and told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest.

Det var Maria Magdalena, Johanna, Maria Jakobs mor, og de andre kvinnene med dem som fortalte dette til apostlene.

Now they were Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the `mother' of James: and the other women with them told these things unto the apostles.

Men de oppfattet deres ord som tomt snakk; og de trodde dem ikke.

And these words appeared in their sight as idle talk; and they disbelieved them.

Men Peter reiste seg og løp til graven; og da han bøyde seg ned og så inn, så han lintøyet lagt der alene, og han dro hjem undrende over det som hadde skjedd.

But Peter arose, and ran unto the tomb; and stooping and looking in, he seeth the linen cloths by themselves; and he departed to his home, wondering at that which was come to pass.

Og se, to av dem var på vei den samme dagen til en landsby som het Emmaus, omtrent elleve kilometer fra Jerusalem.

And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was threescore furlongs from Jerusalem.

Og de snakket med hverandre om alt dette som hadde hendt.

And they communed with each other of all these things which had happened.

Og det skjedde mens de snakket og diskuterte sammen, at Jesus selv nærmet seg og gikk med dem.

And it came to pass, while they communed and questioned together, that Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.

Men deres øyne ble holdt igjen, så de ikke kunne kjenne ham.

But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.

Og han sa til dem: Hva er det dere snakker om mens dere går, og ser så triste ut?

And he said unto them, What communications are these that ye have one with another, as ye walk? And they stood still, looking sad.

En av dem, som het Kleopas, svarte og sa til ham: Er du den eneste som vandrer alene i Jerusalem og ikke vet hva som har hendt der i disse dager?

And one of them, named Cleopas, answering said unto him, Dost thou alone sojourn in Jerusalem and not know the things which are come to pass there in these days?

Og han sa til dem: Hva da? De svarte: Det som har skjedd med Jesus fra Nasaret, som var en profet, mektig i gjerning og ord for Gud og hele folket,

And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

og hvordan yppersteprestene og våre ledere overga ham for å bli dømt til døden og korsfestet ham.

and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.

Men vi håpet at det var han som skulle forløse Israel. Ja, og foruten alt dette er det nå den tredje dag siden dette skjedde.

But we hoped that it was he who should redeem Israel. Yea and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things came to pass.

Dessuten har noen kvinner blant oss forskrekket oss; de var tidlig ved graven,

Moreover certain women of our company amazed us, having been early at the tomb;

og da de ikke fant hans kropp, kom de tilbake med opplysning om at de også hadde sett et syn av engler som sa at han lever.

and when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.

Noen av dem som var med oss gikk til graven, og de fant det slik som kvinnene hadde sagt; men han så de ikke.

And certain of them that were with us went to the tomb, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.

Da sa han til dem: Å, dårer og trege til å tro alt det profetene har talt!

And he said unto them, O foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

Var det ikke nødvendig for Kristus å lide dette og så gå inn i sin herlighet?

Behooved it not the Christ to suffer these things, and to enter into his glory?

Og han begynte med Moses og alle profetene og forklarte for dem i alle skriftene det som angikk ham selv.

And beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Og de nærmet seg landsbyen dit de skulle, og han lot som om han ville gå videre.

And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they were going: and he made as though he would go further.

Men de insisterte, og sa: Bli hos oss, for det går mot kveld og dagen er allerede på hell. Så gikk han inn for å bli hos dem.

And they constrained him, saying, Abide with us; for it is toward evening, and the day is now far spent. And he went in to abide with them.

Og det skjedde mens han satt til bords med dem, tok han brødet, velsignet det, brøt det og ga det til dem.

And it came to pass, when he had sat down with them to meat, he took the bread and blessed; and breaking `it' he gave to them.

Og da ble deres øyne åpnet, og de kjente ham igjen; og han ble usynlig for dem.

And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

Og de sa til hverandre: Brandt ikke vårt hjerte i oss mens han talte til oss på veien og åpnet skriftene for oss?

And they said one to another, Was not our heart burning within us, while he spake to us in the way, while he opened to us the scriptures?

Og de sto opp i den samme timen og vendte tilbake til Jerusalem, og fant de elleve samlet, og de som var med dem,

And they rose up that very hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,

og de sa: Herren er virkelig oppstått, og han har vist seg for Simon.

saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.

Og de fortalte om det som hadde skjedd på veien, og hvordan han ble kjent for dem da han brøt brødet.

And they rehearsed the things `that happened' in the way, and how he was known of them in the breaking of the bread.

Mens de snakket om dette, sto han selv midt iblant dem, og sa til dem: Fred være med dere.

And as they spake these things, he himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace `be' unto you.

Men de ble skremt og redde, og tenkte at de så en ånd.

But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they beheld a spirit.

Og han sa til dem: Hvorfor er dere bekymret, og hvorfor oppstår det tvil i hjertene deres?

And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and wherefore do questionings arise in your heart?

Se mine hender og føtter, at det er jeg selv; ta på meg og se, for en ånd har ikke kjøtt og bein som dere ser at jeg har.

See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye behold me having.

Og da han hadde sagt dette, viste han dem sine hender og føtter.

And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.

Mens de ennå ikke kunne tro det for glede og undret seg, sa han til dem: Har dere noe å spise her?

And while they still disbelieved for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here anything to eat?

Så ga de ham et stykke stekt fisk.

And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish.

Og han tok det og spiste foran dem.

And he took it, and ate before them.

Og han sa til dem: Dette er de ord jeg talte til dere mens jeg ennå var med dere, at alt må oppfylles som er skrevet om meg i Moseloven, profetene og salmene.

And he said unto them, These are my words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and the prophets, and the psalms, concerning me.

Så åpnet han deres sinn, slik at de kunne forstå skriftene.

Then opened he their mind, that they might understand the scriptures;

Og han sa til dem: Slik står det skrevet, at Kristus måtte lide og stå opp fra de døde den tredje dag,

and he said unto them, Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead the third day;

og at omvendelse og syndenes forlatelse skal forkynnes i hans navn for alle folkeslag, begynnende fra Jerusalem.

and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name unto all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

Dere er vitner om dette.

Ye are witnesses of these things.

Og se, jeg sender løftet fra min Far over dere; men bli i byen til dere blir ikledd kraft fra det høye.

And behold, I send forth the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city, until ye be clothed with power from on high.

Og han førte dem ut i nærheten av Betania, og han løftet opp sine hender og velsignet dem.

And he led them out until `they were' over against Bethany: and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

Og det skjedde mens han velsignet dem, at han skiltes fra dem og ble tatt opp til himmelen.

And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he parted from them, and was carried up into heaven.

Og de tilba ham, og vendte tilbake til Jerusalem med stor glede,

And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

og de var stadig i tempelet og lovpriste Gud.

and were continually in the temple, blessing God.
