Samle dere sammen, ja, samle dere, dere skamløse folk.

Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation that hath no shame;

før beslutningen føder, før dagen flyr bort som agner, før Herrens vrede kommer over dere, før dagen for Herrens vrede kommer over dere.

before the decree bring forth, `before' the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of Jehovah come upon you, before the day of Jehovah's anger come upon you.

Søk Herren, alle dere ydmyke på jorden, som har holdt hans forskrifter; søk rettferdighet, søk ydmykhet: kanskje blir dere skjult på Herrens vredes dag.

Seek ye Jehovah, all ye meek of the earth, that have kept his ordinances; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye will be hid in the day of Jehovah's anger.

For Gaza skal bli forlatt, og Askalon være en ødemark; de skal jage bort Ashdod ved middagstid, og Ekron skal rives opp med roten.

For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation; they shall drive out Ashdod at noonday, and Ekron shall be rooted up.

Ve dere som bor ved kysten, cheretittenes folk! Herrens ord er mot dere, o Kanaan, filisternes land; jeg skal ødelegge deg, så det ikke skal være noen innbygger.

Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea-coast, the nation of the Cherethites! The word of Jehovah is against you, O Canaan, the land of the Philistines; I will destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant.

Og kysten skal bli til beiteland, med hytter for gjetere og krøtterfeller for flokker.

And the sea-coast shall be pastures, with cottages for shepherds and folds for flocks.

Og kysten skal tilhøre resten av Judas hus; de skal fø sine flokker derpå; i Askalons hus skal de hvile om kvelden; for Herren deres Gud vil se til dem og vende deres fangenskap.

And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed `their flocks' thereupon; in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening; for Jehovah their God will visit them, and bring back their captivity.

Jeg har hørt hån mot Moab og skjellen fra Ammon-barna, hvor de har hånet mitt folk og opphøyet seg mot deres grense.

I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, wherewith they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border.

Derfor, så sant jeg lever, sier hærskarenes Herre, Israels Gud, Sannelig, Moab skal bli som Sodoma, og Ammon-barna som Gomorra, et område med brennesler og saltdammer, en evig ødemark: resten av mitt folk skal plyndre dem, og resten av mitt folk skal arve dem.

Therefore as I live, saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, a possession of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall make a prey of them, and the remnant of my nation shall inherit them.

Dette skal de få for sin stolthet, fordi de har hånet og opphøyd seg mot hærskarenes Herres folk.

This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of Jehovah of hosts.

Herren skal være fryktelig for dem; for han vil svikte jordens guder; og mennesker skal tilbe ham, hver og en fra sitt sted, til og med alle nasjonenes øyer.

Jehovah will be terrible unto them; for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the nations.

Også dere etiopiere, dere skal drepes ved mitt sverd.

Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be slain by my sword.

Og han vil rekke ut hånden mot nord og ødelegge Assyria, og gjøre Ninive til en ødemark, tørr som ørkenen.

And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria, and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like the wilderness.

Og flokker skal ligge midt i den, alle folkets dyr; både pelikanen og pinnsvinet skal overnatte på dens kapitéler; deres stemme skal synge i vinduene; ødeleggelse skal være på terskelen: for han har blottet cederen.

And herds shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the pelican and the porcupine shall lodge in the capitals thereof; `their' voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he hath laid bare the cedar-work.

Dette er den glade byen som bodde bekymringsløst, som sa i sitt hjerte, Jeg er, og det er ingen ved siden av meg: hvordan har hun blitt en ødemark, et sted for dyr å ligge i! Alle som passerer henne skal plystre og vifte med hånden.

This is the joyous city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none besides me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.
