Til den øverste musikeren. En salme av David. Kongen skal glede seg over din styrke, Herre; hvor stor blir ikke hans jubel i din frelse!
<To the chief music-maker. A Psalm. Of David.> The king will be glad in your strength, O Lord; how great will be his delight in your salvation!
Verse 2
Du har gitt ham hans hjertes ønske, og ikke holdt tilbake hans lepper sin bønn. (Selah.)
You have given him his heart's desire, and have not kept back the request of his lips. (Selah.)
Verse 3
For du går foran ham med velsignelser av gode ting: du setter en krone av fint gull på hans hode.
For you go before him with the blessings of good things: you put a crown of fair gold on his head.
Verse 4
Han ba deg om liv, og du ga ham det, et langt liv for evig.
He made request to you for life, and you gave it to him, long life for ever and ever.
Verse 5
Hans ære er stor i din frelse; du har gitt ham heder og makt.
His glory is great in your salvation: honour and authority have you put on him.
Verse 6
For du har gjort ham til en velsignelse for alltid; du har gitt ham glede i ditt ansikts lys.
For you have made him a blessing for ever: you have given him joy in the light of your face.
Verse 7
For kongen har tro på Herren, og gjennom Den Høyestes miskunn skal han ikke rokkes.
For the king has faith in the Lord, and through the mercy of the Most High he will not be moved.
Verse 8
Din hånd skal lete opp alle dine hatere; din høyre hånd skal være hard mot alle som er imot deg.
Your hand will make a search for all your haters; your right hand will be hard on all those who are against you.
Verse 9
Du skal gjøre dem som en brennende ovn foran deg; Herren i sin vrede skal gjøre ende på dem, og de skal brennes opp i ilden.
You will make them like a flaming oven before you; the Lord in his wrath will put an end to them, and they will be burned up in the fire.
Verse 10
Deres avkom skal utryddes fra jorden, og deres ætt fra menneskenes barn.
Their fruit will be cut off from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men.
Verse 11
For deres tanker var bitre mot deg; de hadde onde hensikter, men de kunne ikke gjennomføre dem.
For their thoughts were bitter against you: they had an evil design in their minds, which they were not able to put into effect.
Verse 12
De vil snu ryggen når du forbereder buen mot deres ansikter.
Their backs will be turned when you make ready the cords of your bow against their faces.
Verse 13
Løft deg opp, Herre, i din styrke; slik vil vi synge i ros av din kraft.
Be lifted up, O Lord, in your strength; so will we make songs in praise of your power.
