The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel—although he was the firstborn, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel, because he defiled his father’s bed. He is not counted as the firstborn in the records.

Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but, forasmuch as he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.

Though Judah became strong among his brothers and a leader came from him, the birthright belonged to Joseph.

For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph's:)

The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

The sons, I say, of Reuben the firstborn of Israel were, Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

The descendants of Joel were Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son,

The sons of Joel; Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son,

Micah his son, Reaiah his son, and Baal his son.

Micah his son, Reaia his son, Baal his son,

And Beerah his son, who was taken into exile by Tiglath-Pileser, king of Assyria. He was a leader of the Reubenites.

Beerah his son, whom Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria carried away captive: he was prince of the Reubenites.

His kinsmen by their families, as they were listed in their genealogical records, were Jeiel the leader and Zechariah.

And his brethren by their families, when the genealogy of their generations was reckoned, were the chief, Jeiel, and Zechariah,

Bela son of Azaz, son of Shema, son of Joel, lived in Aroer and as far as Nebo and Baal-meon.

And Bela the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel, who dwelt in Aroer, even unto Nebo and Baalmeon:

To the east, he lived as far as the wilderness that extends to the Euphrates River because their livestock had multiplied in the land of Gilead.

And eastward he inhabited unto the entering in of the wilderness from the river Euphrates: because their cattle were multiplied in the land of Gilead.

In the days of Saul, they waged war against the Hagrites, who were delivered into their hands. They lived in the Hagrites’ tents throughout the region east of Gilead.

And in the days of Saul they made war with the Hagarites, who fell by their hand: and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the east land of Gilead.

The sons of Gad lived opposite them in the land of Bashan, as far as Salcah.

And the children of Gad dwelt over against them, in the land of Bashan unto Salchah:

Joel was the chief, Shapham the second, Janai, and Shaphat in Bashan.

Joel the chief, and Shapham the next, and Jaanai, and Shaphat in Bashan.

Their relatives according to their families were Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jakan, Zia, and Eber—seven in all.

And their brethren of the house of their fathers were, Michael, and Meshullam, and Sheba, and Jorai, and Jachan, and Zia, and Heber, seven.

These were the sons of Abihail, son of Huri, son of Jaroah, son of Gilead, son of Michael, son of Jeshishai, son of Jahdo, son of Buz.

These are the children of Abihail the son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz;

Ahi son of Abdiel, son of Guni, was the leader of their families.

Ahi the son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, chief of the house of their fathers.

They lived in Gilead, in Bashan and its towns, and throughout all the pasturelands of Sharon as far as their borders.

And they dwelt in Gilead in Bashan, and in her towns, and in all the suburbs of Sharon, upon their borders.

All of them were recorded in the genealogies during the reigns of Jotham, king of Judah, and Jeroboam, king of Israel.

All these were reckoned by genealogies in the days of Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.

The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had valiant men who carried shields and swords, drew bows, and were trained for war. They numbered 44,760 men ready for battle.

The sons of Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh, of valiant men, men able to bear buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skilful in war, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and threescore, that went out to the war.

They waged war against the Hagrites, as well as Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab.

And they made war with the Hagarites, with Jetur, and Nephish, and Nodab.

They were helped against them, and the Hagrites and all their allies were handed over to them because they cried out to God during the battle, and He answered their prayers since they trusted in Him.

And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.

They took away their livestock: fifty thousand camels, two hundred and fifty thousand sheep, two thousand donkeys, and one hundred thousand people as captives.

And they took away their cattle; of their camels fifty thousand, and of sheep two hundred and fifty thousand, and of asses two thousand, and of men an hundred thousand.

Many were killed because the battle was from God, and they lived in their territory until the time of the exile.

For there fell down many slain, because the war was of God. And they dwelt in their steads until the captivity.

The sons of the half-tribe of Manasseh lived in the land from Bashan to Baal-hermon, Senir, and Mount Hermon, and they were numerous.

And the children of the half tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land: they increased from Bashan unto Baalhermon and Senir, and unto mount Hermon.

These were the heads of their families: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel. They were mighty warriors, men of reputation, and leaders of their families.

And these were the heads of the house of their fathers, even Epher, and Ishi, and Eliel, and Azriel, and Jeremiah, and Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of valour, famous men, and heads of the house of their fathers.

But they were unfaithful to the God of their ancestors and followed the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them.

And they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a whoring after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them.

So the God of Israel stirred the spirit of Pul, king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tiglath-pileser, king of Assyria, who took the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh into exile. He carried them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the river of Gozan, where they remain to this day.

And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, unto this day.

The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

The children of Amram were Aaron, Moses, and Miriam. The sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

Eleazar fathered Phinehas, and Phinehas fathered Abishua.

Abishua fathered Bukki, and Bukki fathered Uzzi.

Uzzi fathered Zerahiah, and Zerahiah fathered Meraioth.

Meraioth fathered Amariah, and Amariah fathered Ahitub.

Ahitub fathered Zadok, and Zadok fathered Ahimaaz.

Ahimaaz fathered Azariah, and Azariah fathered Johanan.

Johanan fathered Azariah, who served as a priest in the house that Solomon built in Jerusalem.

Azariah fathered Amariah, and Amariah fathered Ahitub.

Ahitub fathered Zadok, and Zadok fathered Shallum.

Shallum fathered Hilkiah, and Hilkiah fathered Azariah.

Azariah fathered Seraiah, and Seraiah fathered Jehozadak.

Jehozadak went into exile when the Lord sent Judah and Jerusalem into exile by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.
