After these events, there was a vineyard belonging to Naboth the Jezreelite, in Jezreel, next to the palace of Ahab, king of Samaria.

And it came to pass after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, hard by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.

Ahab said to Naboth, 'Give me your vineyard so I can use it as a vegetable garden, because it is close to my house. In exchange, I will give you a better vineyard, or if you prefer, I will pay you its worth in silver.'

And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.

But Naboth said to Ahab, 'The LORD forbid that I should give you my ancestral inheritance!'

And Naboth said to Ahab, The LORD forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee.

Ahab went home sullen and angry because of what Naboth the Jezreelite had said when he told him, 'I will not give you my inheritance.' He lay on his bed, turned his face away, and refused to eat.

And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

His wife Jezebel came to him and asked, 'Why are you so upset that you won’t eat?'

But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said unto him, Why is thy spirit so sad, that thou eatest no bread?

He told her, 'When I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite and said, “Give me your vineyard for money, or if you prefer, I’ll give you another vineyard in exchange,” he replied, “I will not give you my vineyard.”'

And he said unto her, Because I spake unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and said unto him, Give me thy vineyard for money; or else, if it please thee, I will give thee another vineyard for it: and he answered, I will not give thee my vineyard.

Jezebel, his wife, said to him, 'Is this how you act as king over Israel? Get up, eat, and cheer up. I’ll get you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.'

And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? arise, and eat bread, and let thine heart be merry: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name, sealed them with his seal, and sent them to the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth’s city.

So she wrote letters in Ahab's name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that were in his city, dwelling with Naboth.

In those letters she wrote, 'Proclaim a fast and seat Naboth in a prominent place among the people.'

And she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people:

Then seat two scoundrels opposite him and have them accuse him, saying, 'You have cursed God and the king.' Then take him out and stone him to death.

And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.

So the elders and nobles of this city, who lived there, carried out Jezebel’s instructions, just as she had written in the letters she sent them.

And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who were the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them, and as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them.

They proclaimed a fast and seated Naboth in a prominent place among the people.

Two worthless men came and sat opposite Naboth. They testified against him before the people, saying, 'Naboth has cursed God and the king.' So they took him outside the city, stoned him to death, and he died.

And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

Then they sent word to Jezebel, saying, 'Naboth has been stoned and is dead.'

Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned, and is dead.

As soon as Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, she said to Ahab, 'Get up and take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to sell to you for silver. Naboth is no longer alive, but dead.'

And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money: for Naboth is not alive, but dead.

When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up and went down to take possession of Naboth’s vineyard.

And it came to pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

'Get up and go down to meet Ahab, king of Israel, who rules in Samaria. He is now in Naboth’s vineyard, where he has gone to take possession of it.

Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, which is in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to possess it.

Speak to him and say, “Thus says the LORD: Have you murdered and also taken possession?” Then say to him, “Thus says the LORD: In the place where the dogs licked up Naboth’s blood, the dogs will also lick up your blood—yes, yours.”'

And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine.

Ahab said to Elijah, 'So, have you found me, my enemy?' 'I have found you,' he answered, 'because you have devoted yourself to doing evil in the eyes of the LORD.'

And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.

'This is what the LORD says: I am bringing disaster on you. I will sweep away your descendants and cut off every male in your household, both slave and free, in Israel.

Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel,

I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah, because you have provoked My anger and have caused Israel to sin.'

And will make thine house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin.

And concerning Jezebel, the LORD also says: 'Dogs will devour Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.'

And of Jezebel also spake the LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.

'Anyone who belongs to Ahab and dies in the city, the dogs will eat; and anyone who dies in the field, the birds of the heavens will eat.'

Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.

There was no one like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the LORD, urged on by his wife Jezebel.

But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

He acted in the most detestable way by following idols, just as the Amorites had done, whom the LORD drove out before the Israelites.

And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all things as did the Amorites, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.

When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth, and fasted. He lay in sackcloth and went about meekly.

And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

'Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before Me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring disaster during his lifetime; but in the days of his son, I will bring disaster on his house.'

Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.
