The Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled before them. Many fell slain on Mount Gilboa.

The Philistines closely pursued Saul and his sons, and they killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malki-Shua, Saul's sons.

And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons.

The battle grew fierce against Saul. The archers found him, and he was badly wounded by them.

And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.

Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, 'Draw your sword and pierce me with it, or these uncircumcised men will come and abuse me.' But his armor-bearer was too afraid and refused. So Saul took his sword and fell on it.

Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

When his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died with him.

And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.

So Saul, his three sons, his armor-bearer, and all his men died together that same day.

So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.

When the Israelites on the other side of the valley and the Jordan saw that Israel's army had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled. Then the Philistines came and occupied them.

And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

They cut off Saul's head, stripped off his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news in the temples of their idols and among the people.

And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.

They put his armor in the temple of Ashtaroth and hung his corpse on the wall of Beth-shan.

When the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,

all their valiant men rose up, traveled through the night, and retrieved the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth-shan. They brought them to Jabesh and burned them there.

All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Bethshan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.

Then they took their bones, buried them under a tamarisk tree in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
