Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned for thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.

Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath.

He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and followed in all the ways of his ancestor David. He did not turn aside to the right or to the left.

And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.

In the eighteenth year of King Josiah's reign, the king sent Shaphan, son of Azaliah and grandson of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of the LORD, saying,

And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of the LORD, saying,

“Go to Hilkiah the high priest, so that he may count the silver brought into the house of the LORD, which the doorkeepers have collected from the people.

Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people:

Let it be given to the hands of the workmen who are appointed over the house of the LORD, and they shall use it to pay the workers engaged in the repairs of the house—

And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD: and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of the LORD, to repair the breaches of the house,

the carpenters, builders, and masons. It shall also be used to buy timber and quarried stone for repairing the house.

Unto carpenters, and builders, and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house.

But no accounting shall be demanded from the workers for the silver that is given to them, for they are acting faithfully.

Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.

Then Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD.” Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, who read it.

And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

Shaphan the scribe then went to the king and reported to him, saying, “Your servants have removed the silver that was found in the house and have handed it over to those who oversee the work on the house of the LORD.”

And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD.

Shaphan the scribe also told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it aloud to the king.

And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.

When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes.

And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.

Then the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Achbor son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah, the king’s servant, saying,

And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king's, saying,

Go and inquire of the LORD for me, for the people, and for all of Judah concerning the words of this book that has been found. For great is the LORD’s wrath that is kindled against us because our ancestors did not obey the words of this book by doing everything written concerning us.

Go ye, enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.

So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum, son of Tikvah, son of Harhas, the keeper of the wardrobe. She was living in Jerusalem in the second district. They spoke to her.

So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.

She said to them, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Say to the man who sent you to me,

And she said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to me,

‘Thus says the LORD: Behold, I am bringing disaster on this place and on its inhabitants—all the words of the book that the king of Judah has read—’

Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read:

‘Because they have forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, provoking Me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore, My wrath is kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.’

Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.

As for the king of Judah who sent you to inquire of the LORD, you shall say to him: ‘Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Regarding the words you have heard,

But to the king of Judah which sent you to enquire of the LORD, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, As touching the words which thou hast heard;

Because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this place and its inhabitants—that they would become a desolation and a curse—and because you tore your clothes and wept before Me, I also have heard you, declares the LORD.

Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.

Therefore, behold, I will gather you to your ancestors, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster that I am going to bring upon this place.’” Then they brought back word to the king.

Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
