While they were speaking to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them.

They were greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

'let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that it is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified and whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.'

Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

'This is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which has become the cornerstone.'

This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

'And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among humanity by which we must be saved.'

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

When they saw the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were uneducated, ordinary men, they were amazed and recognized that they had been with Jesus.

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

And seeing the man who had been healed standing there with them, they had nothing to say in opposition.

And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

After ordering them to leave the council, they conferred among themselves.

But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,

They said, 'What are we to do with these men? For it is clear to everyone living in Jerusalem that a notable sign has been performed through them, and we cannot deny it.'

Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.

But to prevent this from spreading any further among the people, let us warn them not to speak to anyone in this name again.

But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.

So they called them and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.

But Peter and John replied, 'Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge.'

After further threats, they let them go, finding no way to punish them because of the people, since they were all glorifying God for what had happened.

So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.

For the man on whom this miraculous sign of healing was performed was over forty years old.

For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.

After they were released, they returned to their own people and reported everything the chief priests and the elders had said to them.

And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.

When they heard this, they raised their voices together to God and said, 'Sovereign Lord, you are the one who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them.'

And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

'You spoke through the mouth of your servant David, saying: Why did the nations rage, and the peoples plot in vain?'

Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?

'The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers gathered together against the Lord and against His Anointed One.'

The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.

'Indeed, in this city, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed.'

For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,

'They did what your hand and will had predestined to take place.'

For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

'And now, Lord, consider their threats and grant that your servants may speak your word with all boldness.'

And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,

Stretch out your hand to heal, and let signs and wonders take place through the name of your holy servant Jesus.

By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

After they prayed, the place where they were gathered was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.

And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

The multitude of believers were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they had everything in common.
