Therefore, I, a prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called,
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
Verse 2
with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,
With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Verse 4
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope at your calling;

one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

Therefore it says: 'When he ascended on high, he took the captives captive; he gave gifts to people.'
Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
Verse 9
But what does 'he ascended' mean except that he also descended to the lower parts of the earth?
Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
Verse 10
The one who descended is also the one who ascended far above all the heavens, so that he might fill all things.
He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

And he himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors, and teachers,

to equip the saints for the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ,
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Verse 13
until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, into a mature man, to the measure of the stature that belongs to the fullness of Christ.
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
Verse 14
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed by the waves and blown around by every wind of teaching, by human cunning with cleverness in the techniques of deceit.
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Verse 15
But speaking the truth in love, let us grow in every way into him who is the head—Christ.
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Verse 16
From him the whole body, being joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love as each part does its work.
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
Verse 17
Therefore, I say this and testify in the Lord: You should no longer walk as the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their minds.
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
