The word of the LORD came to me, saying:

The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,

Son of man, there were two women, daughters of the same mother.

Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother:

They committed adultery in Egypt; in their youth, they acted unfaithfully. There, their breasts were fondled, and their virginity was violated.

And they committed whoredoms in Egypt; they committed whoredoms in their youth: there were their breasts pressed, and there they bruised the teats of their virginity.

Their names were Oholah, the elder, and Oholibah, her sister. They became mine and gave birth to sons and daughters. Their names represent Samaria as Oholah, and Jerusalem as Oholibah.

And the names of them were Aholah the elder, and Aholibah her sister: and they were mine, and they bare sons and daughters. Thus were their names; Samaria is Aholah, and Jerusalem Aholibah.

Oholah was unfaithful to me and lusted after her lovers—the Assyrians, who were near.

And Aholah played the harlot when she was mine; and she doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians her neighbours,

They were clothed in blue, governors and officials, all of them young and desirable men, skilled horsemen riding on horses.

Which were clothed with blue, captains and rulers, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding upon horses.

She gave herself to them, all the elite of the Assyrians, and defiled herself with all the idols she lusted after.

Thus she committed her whoredoms with them, with all them that were the chosen men of Assyria, and with all on whom she doted: with all their idols she defiled herself.

She did not abandon the adulteries she began in Egypt, where men slept with her in her youth, fondling her virgin breasts and pouring out their lust upon her.

Neither left she her whoredoms brought from Egypt: for in her youth they lay with her, and they bruised the breasts of her virginity, and poured their whoredom upon her.

Therefore, I handed her over to her lovers, the Assyrians whom she lusted after.

Wherefore I have delivered her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians, upon whom she doted.

They exposed her nakedness, seized her sons and daughters, and killed her with the sword. She became a byword among women, and they carried out judgment against her.

These discovered her nakedness: they took her sons and her daughters, and slew her with the sword: and she became famous among women; for they had executed judgment upon her.

Her sister Oholibah saw this, yet she was even more corrupt in her lust, and her adulteries exceeded those of her sister.

And when her sister Aholibah saw this, she was more corrupt in her inordinate love than she, and in her whoredoms more than her sister in her whoredoms.

She too lusted after the Assyrians—governors and officials nearby—elegantly clothed, skilled horsemen, and all young and desirable men.

She doted upon the Assyrians her neighbours, captains and rulers clothed most gorgeously, horsemen riding upon horses, all of them desirable young men.

I saw that she too was defiled; both had followed the same corrupt path.

Then I saw that she was defiled, that they took both one way,

But she went even further with her adulteries. She saw men carved on the walls, images of the Chaldeans portrayed in vermilion.

And that she increased her whoredoms: for when she saw men pourtrayed upon the wall, the images of the Chaldeans pourtrayed with vermilion,

They were girded with belts at their waists, with flowing turbans on their heads. All of them looked like officers, resembling the men of Babylon, born in Chaldea.

Girded with girdles upon their loins, exceeding in dyed attire upon their heads, all of them princes to look to, after the manner of the Babylonians of Chaldea, the land of their nativity:

As soon as she saw them, she lusted after them and sent messengers to them in Chaldea.

And as soon as she saw them with her eyes, she doted upon them, and sent messengers unto them into Chaldea.

Then the Babylonians came to her, to her bed of love, and defiled her with their lust. After she was defiled by them, she turned away from them in disgust.

And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoredom, and she was polluted with them, and her mind was alienated from them.

When she openly displayed her prostitution and exposed her nakedness, I turned away from her in disgust, just as I had turned away from her sister.

So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then my mind was alienated from her, like as my mind was alienated from her sister.

Yet she increased her prostitution, remembering the days of her youth when she prostituted herself in the land of Egypt.

Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, wherein she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt.

She lusted after her lovers there, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.

For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses.

So you revisited the lewdness of your youth, when the Egyptians fondled your breasts and caressed your young bosom.

Thus thou calledst to remembrance the lewdness of thy youth, in bruising thy teats by the Egyptians for the paps of thy youth.

Therefore, Oholibah, this is what the Lord GOD says: 'I am about to stir up your lovers against you, those from whom you turned away in disgust, and I will bring them against you from every side—

Therefore, O Aholibah, thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will raise up thy lovers against thee, from whom thy mind is alienated, and I will bring them against thee on every side;

the Babylonians and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them, handsome young men, governors and commanders, chariot soldiers, and men of renown, all mounted on horses.

The Babylonians, and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, and Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them: all of them desirable young men, captains and rulers, great lords and renowned, all of them riding upon horses.

They will come against you with weapons, chariots, and wagons, and with a vast army. They will take up shields, helmets, and armor against you on every side. I will hand you over to them for judgment, and they will punish you according to their laws.

And they shall come against thee with chariots, wagons, and wheels, and with an assembly of people, which shall set against thee buckler and shield and helmet round about: and I will set judgment before them, and they shall judge thee according to their judgments.

I will direct my jealous fury against you, and they will deal with you in anger. They will cut off your nose and ears, and your survivors will fall by the sword. They will take your sons and daughters, and those who remain will be consumed by fire.

And I will set my jealousy against thee, and they shall deal furiously with thee: they shall take away thy nose and thine ears; and thy remnant shall fall by the sword: they shall take thy sons and thy daughters; and thy residue shall be devoured by the fire.

They will strip you of your clothes and take your beautiful jewelry.

They shall also strip thee out of thy clothes, and take away thy fair jewels.

So I will put an end to your lewdness and your prostitution, which you brought from the land of Egypt. You will not look longingly at them again or remember Egypt anymore.

Thus will I make thy lewdness to cease from thee, and thy whoredom brought from the land of Egypt: so that thou shalt not lift up thine eyes unto them, nor remember Egypt any more.

For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'I am about to deliver you into the hands of those you hate, into the hands of those you turned away from in disgust.'

For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will deliver thee into the hand of them whom thou hatest, into the hand of them from whom thy mind is alienated:

They will deal with you in hatred, take away all you have worked for, and leave you naked and bare. The shame of your prostitution will be exposed—your lewdness and promiscuity.

And they shall deal with thee hatefully, and shall take away all thy labour, and shall leave thee naked and bare: and the nakedness of thy whoredoms shall be discovered, both thy lewdness and thy whoredoms.

These things will be done to you because you prostituted yourself to the nations, defiling yourself with their idols.

I will do these things unto thee, because thou hast gone a whoring after the heathen, and because thou art polluted with their idols.

You have followed in the path of your sister; therefore, I will put her cup into your hand.

Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister; therefore will I give her cup into thine hand.

This is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'You will drink your sister’s cup, a cup deep and wide. It will bring scorn and ridicule, as it holds much to bear.'

Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou shalt drink of thy sister's cup deep and large: thou shalt be laughed to scorn and had in derision; it containeth much.

It will be a cup filled with drunkenness and sorrow, a cup of horror and desolation, the cup of your sister Samaria.

Thou shalt be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of astonishment and desolation, with the cup of thy sister Samaria.

You will drink it and drain it dry, and then gnaw on its broken pieces and tear your breasts. For I have spoken, declares the Sovereign LORD.

Thou shalt even drink it and suck it out, and thou shalt break the sherds thereof, and pluck off thine own breasts: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.

Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'Because you have forgotten me and thrust me behind your back, you must also bear the consequences of your lewdness and prostitution.'

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast forgotten me, and cast me behind thy back, therefore bear thou also thy lewdness and thy whoredoms.

The LORD said to me: 'Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then confront them with their abominations.'

The LORD said moreover unto me; Son of man, wilt thou judge Aholah and Aholibah? yea, declare unto them their abominations;

For they have committed adultery and blood is on their hands. They committed adultery with their idols; they even sacrificed their children, whom they bore to me, passing them through the fire as food for their idols.

That they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands, and with their idols have they committed adultery, and have also caused their sons, whom they bare unto me, to pass for them through the fire, to devour them.

They have also done this to me: On the same day they defiled my sanctuary and desecrated my Sabbaths.

Moreover this they have done unto me: they have defiled my sanctuary in the same day, and have profaned my sabbaths.

When they slaughtered their children as sacrifices to their idols, they came to my sanctuary on the same day to desecrate it. See, this is what they have done in my house.

For when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary to profane it; and, lo, thus have they done in the midst of mine house.

Furthermore, they sent for men from far away, messengers were dispatched to them, and they came. You bathed yourself, painted your eyes, and adorned yourself with jewelry.

And furthermore, that ye have sent for men to come from far, unto whom a messenger was sent; and, lo, they came: for whom thou didst wash thyself, paintedst thy eyes, and deckedst thyself with ornaments,

You sat on a glorious couch with a table prepared before it, where you placed my incense and my oil.

And satest upon a stately bed, and a table prepared before it, whereupon thou hast set mine incense and mine oil.

The sound of a carefree crowd was with her, and drunkards were brought from the desert. They put bracelets on their wrists and beautiful crowns on their heads.

And a voice of a multitude being at ease was with her: and with the men of the common sort were brought Sabeans from the wilderness, which put bracelets upon their hands, and beautiful crowns upon their heads.

Then I said about the one worn out by adultery, ‘Now they will continue their acts of fornication with her.’

Then said I unto her that was old in adulteries, Will they now commit whoredoms with her, and she with them?

They went to her as men go to a prostitute. In the same way, they went to Oholah and Oholibah, the immoral women.

Yet they went in unto her, as they go in unto a woman that playeth the harlot: so went they in unto Aholah and unto Aholibah, the lewd women.

But righteous men will judge them for committing adultery and shedding blood, because they are adulteresses, and blood is on their hands.

And the righteous men, they shall judge them after the manner of adulteresses, and after the manner of women that shed blood; because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands.

For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: ‘Bring a great assembly against them and hand them over to terror and plunder.'

For thus saith the Lord GOD; I will bring up a company upon them, and will give them to be removed and spoiled.

They will stone them and cut them down with their swords. They will kill their sons and daughters and burn down their houses with fire.

And the company shall stone them with stones, and dispatch them with their swords; they shall slay their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire.

So I will put an end to lewdness in the land, so that all women may be warned and refrain from imitating your immoral ways.

Thus will I cause lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to do after your lewdness.

You will bear the punishment for your lewdness and the sins of your idols. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD.

And they shall recompense your lewdness upon you, and ye shall bear the sins of your idols: and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
