Verse 1
For freedom, Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
Verse 2
Listen! I, Paul, say to you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you.
Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
Verse 3
Again I declare to every man who allows himself to be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.
For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
Verse 4
You who are justified by the law have been severed from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
Verse 5
For through the Spirit, by faith, we eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness.
For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
Verse 6
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision carries any weight, but faith working through love does.
For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.
Verse 7
You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?
Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?
Verse 8
Such persuasion does not come from the one who calls you.
This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.
Verse 9
A little yeast leavens the whole lump of dough.
A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
Verse 10
I am confident in the Lord that you will think no other way. The one who is troubling you will bear the judgment, whoever he may be.
I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.
Verse 11
Brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? If that were the case, the offense of the cross would be eliminated.
And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.
Verse 12
I wish those who unsettle you would go all the way and emasculate themselves!
I would they were even cut off which trouble you.
Verse 13
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
Verse 14
For the entire law is fulfilled in one statement: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Verse 15
But if you bite and devour one another, beware that you are not consumed by one another.
But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.
Verse 16
I say then, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh.
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Verse 17
For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you want to do.
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Verse 18
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Verse 19
Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery,
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Verse 20
idolatry, sorcery, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions,
Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Verse 21
envy, murders, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Verse 22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Verse 23
gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Verse 24
Now those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Verse 25
If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Verse 26
Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
