Verse 1
Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:
Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
Verse 2
How long will you keep putting an end to words? Consider, and then we will speak.
How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.
Verse 3
Why are we regarded as animals and considered unclean in your eyes?
Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight?
Verse 4
You who tear yourself in anger—for your sake should the earth be abandoned, and the rock moved from its place?
He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?
Verse 5
Indeed, the light of the wicked will be extinguished, and the flame of his fire will not shine.
Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.
Verse 6
The light in his tent will grow dark, and the lamp above him will be extinguished.
The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.
Verse 7
His vigorous steps will be restricted, and his own counsel will cast him down.
The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.
Verse 8
For his feet are cast into a net, and he wanders into its mesh.
For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a snare.
Verse 9
A trap seizes him by the heel; a snare holds him tight.
The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him.
Verse 10
His rope lies hidden in the ground, and his trap is set along the path.
The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.
Verse 11
Terrors frighten him on every side and chase him at his heels.
Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.
Verse 12
Hunger consumes his strength, and calamity is ready at his side.
His strength shall be hungerbitten, and destruction shall be ready at his side.
Verse 13
It devours parts of his skin; death's firstborn consumes his limbs.
It shall devour the strength of his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength.
Verse 14
He is uprooted from the security of his tent and marched off to the king of terrors.
His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.
Verse 15
What does not belong to him will dwell in his tent; burning sulfur will be scattered over his dwelling.
It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.
Verse 16
His roots below will dry up, and his branches above will wither.
His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.
Verse 17
His memory perishes from the earth, and he has no name in the public square.
His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.
Verse 18
He is driven from light into darkness and chased out of the world.
He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.
Verse 19
He has no offspring or posterity among his people, nor any survivor where he once lived.
He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.
Verse 20
Those who come after are appalled at his fate, and those before are seized with horror.
They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.
Verse 21
Surely these are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of one who does not know God.
Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.
