Verse 1
Indeed, my heart trembles at this and leaps from its place.
At this also my heart trembleth, and is moved out of his place.
Verse 2
Listen closely to the rumbling of His voice and the sound that comes from His mouth.
Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goeth out of his mouth.
Verse 3
He unleashes it under the whole sky, and His lightning to the edges of the earth.
He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.
Verse 4
After it, His voice roars; He thunders with His majestic voice, and He does not hold them back when His voice is heard.
After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard.
Verse 5
God thunders marvelously with His voice; He performs great wonders that we cannot comprehend.
God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.
Verse 6
He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth,' and to the rain showers, 'Be strong.'
For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.
Verse 7
He seals up the hands of every man, so that all people may know His work.
He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.
Verse 8
The beasts retreat to their dens and dwell in their shelters.
Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places.
Verse 9
The storm comes from its chamber, and the cold winds from the north.
Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.
Verse 10
By the breath of God, ice is made, and the broad waters are frozen solid.
By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.
Verse 11
Even with moisture, He loads the thick clouds and scatters His lightning from them.
Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:
Verse 12
They turn and shift by His guidance, to carry out all that He commands across the surface of the earth.
And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth.
Verse 13
Whether for correction, or for His land, or for His mercy, He causes it to happen.
He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.
Verse 14
Listen to this, Job; stand still and consider the wonders of God.
Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.
Verse 15
Do you know how God orders them and how He causes the lightning of His clouds to shine?
Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?
Verse 16
Do you understand the balancings of the clouds, the wonders of Him who has perfect knowledge?
Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?
Verse 17
You who feel your garments warm when the earth is quiet under the south wind.
How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south wind?
Verse 18
Can you spread out the skies with Him, as firm as a molten mirror?
Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?
Verse 19
Teach us what we should say to Him, for we cannot present our case because of the darkness.
Teach us what we shall say unto him; for we cannot order our speech by reason of darkness.
Verse 20
Should it be told to Him that I would speak? Or should a man say that he would be swallowed up?
Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely he shall be swallowed up.
Verse 21
Now no one sees the bright light in the clouds, but the wind has passed and cleared them.
And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.
Verse 22
From the north comes golden splendor; around God is awesome majesty.
Fair weather cometh out of the north: with God is terrible majesty.
Verse 23
The Almighty—we cannot find Him; He is great in power, and in justice and abundant righteousness, He does not oppress.
Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.
Verse 24
Therefore, people fear Him; He does not regard any who are wise in their own hearts.
Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.
