Verse 1
They arrived at the other side of the sea, in the region of the Gadarenes.
And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
Verse 2
As Jesus stepped out of the boat, immediately a man with an unclean spirit came out of the tombs to meet Him.
And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
Verse 3
This man lived in the tombs, and no one was able to restrain him anymore, not even with chains.
Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
Verse 4
He had been bound often with shackles and chains, but he tore the chains apart and smashed the shackles. No one was strong enough to subdue him.
Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
Verse 5
Night and day, he would cry out among the tombs and in the mountains, cutting himself with stones.
And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
Verse 6
When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and knelt down before Him.
But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
Verse 7
Crying out with a loud voice, he said, 'What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You by God, do not torment me!'
And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
Verse 8
For Jesus had been saying to him, 'Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!'
For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
Verse 9
Then Jesus asked him, 'What is your name?' He replied, 'My name is Legion, for we are many.'
And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
Verse 10
And he begged Jesus repeatedly not to send them out of the region.
And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
Verse 11
Now a large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside.
Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
Verse 12
The demons begged Him, 'Send us into the pigs so that we may enter them.'
And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
Verse 13
So He gave them permission. The unclean spirits came out and entered the pigs, and the herd—about two thousand in number—rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned there.
And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
Verse 14
Those tending the pigs ran away and reported it in the town and the countryside. The people went out to see what had happened.
And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.
Verse 15
When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons sitting there, dressed, and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
Verse 16
Those who had seen it described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and about the pigs.
And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.
Verse 17
Then the people began to plead with Him to leave their region.
And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.
Verse 18
As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with Him.
And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.
Verse 19
But Jesus did not let him. Instead, He said, 'Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you and how He has shown you mercy.'
Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
Verse 20
So the man went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And everyone marveled.
And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.
Verse 21
When Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around Him while He was by the sea.
And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.
Verse 22
Then one of the leaders of the synagogue, named Jairus, came, and seeing Jesus, he fell at His feet.
And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
Verse 23
He pleaded with Him earnestly, saying, 'My little daughter is dying. Please come and place Your hands on her, so that she may be healed and live.'
And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
Verse 24
So Jesus went with him, and a large crowd followed and pressed around Him.
And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.
Verse 25
A certain woman, who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years,
And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
Verse 26
had suffered greatly under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had. Yet instead of getting better, she grew worse.
And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
Verse 27
When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind Him in the crowd and touched His cloak.
When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
Verse 28
For she thought, 'If I just touch His clothes, I will be healed.'
For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
Verse 29
Immediately her bleeding stopped, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her suffering.
And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
Verse 30
At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from Him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, 'Who touched My clothes?'
And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
Verse 31
His disciples said to Him, 'You see the crowd pressing against You, and yet You ask, “Who touched Me?”'
And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
Verse 32
But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it.
And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
Verse 33
Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling, fell down before Him, and told Him the whole truth.
But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
Verse 34
Then He said to her, 'Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be free from your suffering.'
And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
Verse 35
While He was still speaking, some people came from the house of the synagogue leader and said, 'Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher anymore?'
While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
Verse 36
But Jesus overheard the message being spoken and told the synagogue leader, 'Do not be afraid. Just believe.'
As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
Verse 37
He did not allow anyone to follow Him except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James.
And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
Verse 38
They came to the house of the synagogue leader, and Jesus saw a commotion with people weeping and wailing loudly.
And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
Verse 39
He went inside and said to them, 'Why are you making such a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep.'
And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
Verse 40
But they laughed at Him. After He put them all outside, He took the child's father, mother, and those with Him and went into the room where the child was lying.
And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
Verse 41
Taking her by the hand, He said to her, 'Talitha koumi,' which means, 'Little girl, I say to you, get up.'
And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
Verse 42
Immediately, the girl got up and began to walk around—she was twelve years old. They were completely astonished.
And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
Verse 43
Jesus strictly ordered them not to let anyone know about this, and He told them to give her something to eat.
And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
