At that time, Herod, the tetrarch, heard the news about Jesus.

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,

And he said to his servants, 'This is John the Baptist. He has been raised from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.'

And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife.

For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.

For John had been telling him, 'It is not lawful for you to have her.'

For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

Though Herod wanted to kill him, he feared the crowd because they considered John to be a prophet.

And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

But on Herod's birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and it pleased Herod.

But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

Therefore, he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask.

Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

Prompted by her mother, she said, 'Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter.'

And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.

The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and his guests, he ordered it to be given to her.

And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.

So he sent orders and had John beheaded in the prison.

And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

His head was brought in on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother.

And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.

Then John's disciples came, took the body, buried it, and went and told Jesus.

And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

When Jesus heard about this, He withdrew from there by boat to a solitary place. Yet the crowds, hearing of this, followed Him on foot from the towns.

When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.

When He stepped ashore and saw the great crowd, He was moved with compassion for them and healed their sick.

And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

When it was evening, the disciples came to Him and said, 'This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the crowds away so that they can go into the villages and buy food for themselves.'

And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.

But Jesus replied, 'They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.'

But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

They said to Him, 'We have nothing here except five loaves and two fish.'

And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.

Jesus said, 'Bring them here to me.'

He said, Bring them hither to me.

Then He instructed the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, gave thanks, and broke the loaves. He then gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.

And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples collected twelve baskets full of leftover pieces.

And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.

And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

Immediately, Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowds.

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

After dismissing the crowds, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. When evening came, He was there alone.

And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

Meanwhile, the boat was already far from land, being battered by the waves because the wind was against it.

But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

During the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.

And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified. 'It's a ghost!' they said, and they cried out in fear.

And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

But immediately Jesus spoke to them: 'Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.'

But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

Peter replied, 'Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.'

And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

Jesus said, 'Come.' Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus.

And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

But when he saw the strong wind, he was afraid, and starting to sink, he cried out, 'Lord, save me!'

But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

Immediately, Jesus reached out His hand, caught him, and said, 'You of little faith, why did you doubt?'

And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

When they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.

And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

Then those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, 'Truly You are the Son of God.'

Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.

And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.

When the men of that place recognized Him, they sent word throughout the entire surrounding region and brought to Him all who were sick.

And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;

They pleaded with Him to let them touch just the fringe of His garment, and all who touched it were healed completely.

And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.
