Verse 1
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but one who hates correction is senseless.
Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
Verse 2
A good person obtains favor from the LORD, but a person of wicked schemes is condemned.
A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.
Verse 3
No one can be established by wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted.
A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.
Verse 4
A wife of noble character is her husband's crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.
A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
Verse 5
The thoughts of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful.
The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
Verse 6
The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the mouth of the upright rescues them.
The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
Verse 7
The wicked are overthrown and no more, but the house of the righteous stands firm.
The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.
Verse 8
A person is praised according to their insight, but one with a twisted mind is despised.
A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.
Verse 9
Better to be lowly and have a servant than to act important and have no food.
He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.
Verse 10
The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.
A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
Verse 11
Those who work their land will have plenty of food, but those who chase fantasies lack sense.
He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.
Verse 12
The wicked desire the plunder of evildoers, but the root of the righteous flourishes.
The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.
Verse 13
By the sin of their lips, the wicked are trapped, but the righteous escape trouble.
The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.
Verse 14
From the fruit of their lips, people are filled with good things, and the work of their hands brings them reward.
A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.
Verse 15
The way of a fool seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
Verse 16
Fools show their anger at once, but the prudent quietly overlook an insult.
A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.
Verse 17
An honest witness tells the truth, but a false witness speaks deceit.
He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.
Verse 18
There is one whose rash words are like the thrusts of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.
Verse 19
Truthful speech endures forever, but a lying tongue lasts only for a moment.
The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
Verse 20
Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil, but joy is for those who counsel peace.
Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.
Verse 21
No harm befalls the righteous, but the wicked are filled with trouble.
There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.
Verse 22
Lying lips are detestable to the LORD, but those who act faithfully are His delight.
Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
Verse 23
A prudent person conceals knowledge, but the heart of fools proclaims folly.
A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.
Verse 24
The diligent hand will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.
The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.
Verse 25
Anxiety in a person's heart weighs them down, but a kind word cheers them up.
Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
Verse 26
The righteous choose their companions wisely, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.
The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.
Verse 27
The lazy do not roast their game, but diligent people prize their possessions.
The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.
Verse 28
In the path of righteousness is life, and its pathway leads to immortality.
In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
