Verse 1
A wise son listens to his father's instruction, but a mocker does not heed rebuke.
A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
Verse 2
From the fruit of their lips, people enjoy good things, but the appetite of the treacherous desires violence.
A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
Verse 3
Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
Verse 4
The sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.
The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
Verse 5
The righteous hate falsehood, but the wicked act shamefully and disgrace themselves.
A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.
Verse 6
Righteousness guards the way of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.
Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
Verse 7
One pretends to be rich yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor yet has great wealth.
There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.
Verse 8
A person's wealth may ransom their life, but the poor hear no threat.
The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.
Verse 9
The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.
The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
Verse 10
Where there is pride, there is strife, but wisdom is found in those who take counsel.
Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
Verse 11
Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.
Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
Verse 12
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.
Verse 13
Whoever despises the word will bring destruction upon themselves, but respecting the commandment brings a reward.
Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
Verse 14
The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, helping one turn away from the traps of death.
The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
Verse 15
Good understanding wins favor, but the way of the treacherous leads to ruin.
Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.
Verse 16
Every prudent person acts with knowledge, but a fool flaunts their folly.
Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.
Verse 17
A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy brings healing.
A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
Verse 18
Poverty and shame come to those who ignore discipline, but those who heed correction are honored.
Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
Verse 19
A longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil.
The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.
Verse 20
Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools suffers harm.
He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
Verse 21
Trouble pursues sinners, but the righteous are rewarded with good.
Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.
Verse 22
A good person leaves an inheritance for their grandchildren, but the sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous.
A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
Verse 23
An abundance of food may come from the land of the poor, but it is sometimes swept away for lack of justice.
Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.
Verse 24
Whoever spares the rod hates their child, but the one who loves their child is diligent to discipline them.
He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
Verse 25
The righteous eat to their heart's content, but the stomach of the wicked goes hungry.
The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
