Verse 1
Better to be poor and walk in integrity than to be a fool with twisted lips.
Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
Verse 2
Enthusiasm without knowledge is not good, and one who hurries makes wrong choices.
Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
Verse 3
A man’s foolishness twists his way, and his heart rages against the LORD.
The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD.
Verse 4
Wealth attracts many friends, but a poor person is abandoned by their friends.
Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.
Verse 5
A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who pours out lies will not escape.
A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
Verse 6
Many seek the favor of a generous person, and everyone is a friend to the one who gives gifts.
Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
Verse 7
All the relatives of a poor person hate him; how much more do his friends avoid him. He pursues them with words, but they are not there.
All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.
Verse 8
The one who acquires wisdom loves life, and the one who cherishes understanding will prosper.
He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
Verse 9
A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who breathes out lies will perish.
A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.
Verse 10
Luxury is not fitting for a fool, much less for a servant to rule over princes.
Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
Verse 11
A person’s wisdom makes them slow to anger, and it is their glory to overlook an offense.
The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
Verse 12
A king’s rage is like the roar of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.
The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
Verse 13
A foolish son is a disaster to his father, and a nagging wife is like constant dripping.
A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
Verse 14
Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.
House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD.
Verse 15
Laziness brings on deep sleep, and a lazy soul will go hungry.
Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
Verse 16
The one who keeps the commandment preserves their soul, but whoever despises their ways will die.
He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.
Verse 17
Whoever is gracious to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will repay him for his good deed.
He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
Verse 18
Discipline your son while there is hope, and do not desire his death.
Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.
Verse 19
A person with great anger must bear the penalty; if you rescue them, you will have to do it again.
A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
Verse 20
Listen to advice and accept discipline, so that you may become wise in the future.
Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
Verse 21
Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that will prevail.
There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
Verse 22
What is desirable in a person is kindness, and it is better to be poor than a liar.
The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
Verse 23
The fear of the LORD leads to life; one is content and rests untroubled by harm.
The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
Verse 24
The sluggard buries his hand in the dish but will not even bring it back to his mouth.
A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
Verse 25
Strike a scoffer, and the simple will gain wisdom; rebuke the discerning, and they will gain knowledge.
Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
Verse 26
Whoever robs their father and drives out their mother is a child who brings shame and disgrace.
He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
Verse 27
Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.
Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
Verse 28
A worthless witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity.
An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
Verse 29
Judgments are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
