Verse 1
The king's heart is like streams of water in the hand of the LORD; He directs it wherever He pleases.
The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
Verse 2
Every person's way seems right in their own eyes, but the LORD evaluates the hearts.
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.
Verse 3
To do righteousness and justice is preferred by the LORD rather than sacrifice.
To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
Verse 4
Haughty eyes and a proud heart—the lamp of the wicked—is sin.
An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.
Verse 5
The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.
The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.
Verse 6
The acquisition of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and a trap of death.
The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.
Verse 7
The violence of the wicked will sweep them away because they refuse to act justly.
The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.
Verse 8
The way of the guilty is crooked, but the conduct of the pure is upright.
The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.
Verse 9
It is better to live on the corner of a roof than to share a house with a contentious wife.
It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
Verse 10
The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no favor in his eyes.
The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.
Verse 11
When a scoffer is punished, the simple become wise; when a wise person is instructed, they increase in knowledge.
When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
Verse 12
The righteous one considers the house of the wicked and brings the wicked down to ruin.
The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.
Verse 13
Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered.
Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.
Verse 14
A gift given in secret soothes anger, and a bribe in the lap pacifies intense wrath.
A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.
Verse 15
Justice brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.
It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
Verse 16
A person who wanders from the path of understanding will rest in the assembly of the dead.
The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.
Verse 17
Whoever loves pleasure will become poor; whoever loves wine and oil will not become rich.
He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
Verse 18
The wicked serve as a ransom for the righteous, and the treacherous for the upright.
The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.
Verse 19
It is better to live in a desert land than with a quarrelsome and angry wife.
It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.
Verse 20
Valuable treasures and oil are in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish person swallows them up.
There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.
Verse 21
One who pursues righteousness and love finds life, righteousness, and honor.
He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.
Verse 22
A wise person ascends the city of warriors and brings down the fortress in which they trust.
A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.
Verse 23
Whoever guards their mouth and tongue keeps themselves from troubles.
Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
Verse 24
The proud and arrogant person, named 'Scoffer,' acts with excessive pride.
Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.
Verse 25
The desire of the lazy person kills them, for their hands refuse to work.
The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.
Verse 26
All day long they crave and crave, but the righteous give and do not hold back.
He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
Verse 27
The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable, even more when it is brought with evil intent.
The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?
Verse 28
A false witness will perish, but one who listens will speak forever.
A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.
Verse 29
A wicked man hardens his face, but an upright person considers their way.
A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.
Verse 30
There is no wisdom, no understanding, and no counsel that can stand against the LORD.
There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.
Verse 31
The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but victory belongs to the LORD.
The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.
