My son, keep my words and treasure my commandments with you.

Keep my commandments and live, and guard my teaching as the apple of your eye.

Tie them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.

Say to wisdom, 'You are my sister,' and call understanding your close relative.
Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:

To keep you from the strange woman, from the foreigner who flatters with her words.
That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.

For at the window of my house, through my lattice, I looked out.

And I saw among the naive ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man lacking understanding.

In the twilight, in the evening, in the dark of night and in deep darkness.

And behold, a woman came to meet him, dressed like a prostitute and sly of heart.
And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.
Verse 11
She is loud and rebellious; her feet do not stay at home.
She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:
Verse 12
Now in the street, now in the squares, at every corner, she lurks.
Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)
Verse 13
She took hold of him and kissed him; with a brazen face she said to him:
So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,
Verse 14
'I had to offer sacrifices of peace offerings; today I fulfilled my vows.'
I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.
Verse 15
'So I came out to meet you, to diligently seek your face, and I have found you.'
Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
Verse 16
'I have spread my couch with coverings, colored linens from Egypt.'
I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

'I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.'

'Come, let us drink our fill of love until morning; let us delight ourselves with loving caresses.'
Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.
Verse 19
'For my husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey.'
For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:
Verse 20
'He took a bag of silver with him and will not return home until the full moon.'
He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.
Verse 21
With her abundant persuasion, she entices him; with her smooth talk, she compels him.
With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.
Verse 22
He follows her all at once, like an ox going to slaughter, or like a fool to the correction of shackles.
He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
Verse 23
Until an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird rushing into a trap, not realizing it will cost him his life.
Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.
Verse 24
Now then, my sons, listen to me and pay attention to the words of my mouth.
Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
Verse 25
Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her paths.
Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
Verse 26
For she has brought down many victims, and numerous are all those she has slain.
For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
Verse 27
Her house is the way to Sheol, descending to the chambers of death.
Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.
