Verse 1
Why, Lord, do You stand far off? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?
Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?
Verse 2
In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the afflicted; let them be caught in the schemes they have devised.
The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.
Verse 3
For the wicked boasts of the desires of his heart, and the greedy man curses and spurns the Lord.
For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.
Verse 4
In his pride, the wicked man says, 'He will not seek; there is no God in all his thoughts.'
The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.
Verse 5
His ways prosper at all times; Your judgments are far above, out of his sight; as for all his foes, he sneers at them.
His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.
Verse 6
He says in his heart, 'I shall not be moved; from generation to generation I shall be without trouble.'
He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.
Verse 7
His mouth is full of curses and deceit and oppression; under his tongue are trouble and iniquity.
His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.
Verse 8
He sits in ambush in the villages; in the hiding places he murders the innocent; his eyes stealthily watch for the helpless.
He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.
Verse 9
He lies in wait secretly, like a lion in his den; he lies in wait to catch the afflicted; he catches the afflicted by drawing them into his net.
He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.
Verse 10
He crouches, he bows down, and the helpless fall by his strong claws.
He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.
Verse 11
He says in his heart, 'God has forgotten; He has hidden His face; He will never see it.'
He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.
Verse 12
Arise, Lord! Lift up Your hand, O God! Do not forget the afflicted.
Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.
Verse 13
Why does the wicked spurn God? He says in his heart, 'You will not call me to account.'
Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.
Verse 14
But You have seen; for You observe trouble and grief, to repay it by Your hand. The helpless entrusts themselves to You; You are the helper of the fatherless.
Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.
Verse 15
Break the arm of the wicked and the evildoer! Call him to account for his wickedness until it is no more found.
Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none.
Verse 16
The Lord is King forever and ever; the nations have perished from His land.
The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land.
Verse 17
Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their hearts and listen with Your ear.
LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:
Verse 18
To vindicate the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man, who is of the earth, will no longer terrorize.
To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.
