Verse 1
Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, and His steadfast love endures forever.
O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, those He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary.

He gathered them from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

They wandered in the wilderness, in a desolate place; they found no way to a city where they could settle.

Let them give thanks to the LORD for His steadfast love and His wonderful deeds for mankind.
Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

For He satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with good things.

Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in misery and chains.

Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.

Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and tell of His works with shouts of joy.

Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the great waters.

They saw the works of the LORD and His wonderful deeds in the deep.
These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.
Verse 25
For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, which lifted the waves of the sea.
For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
Verse 26
They rose up to the heavens, then they went down to the depths; their courage melted away in their distress.
They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.

They reeled and staggered like drunkards, and all their skill was useless.
They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end.

Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He brought them out of their distress.
Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
Verse 29
He stilled the storm to a whisper, and the waves of the sea were quiet.
He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
Verse 30
They rejoiced when the waters grew calm, and He guided them to the harbor they desired.
Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.

Let them exalt Him in the assembly of the people and praise Him in the council of the elders.

He turns rivers into a desert, springs of water into parched ground,
He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;

and a fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who dwell there.

He turns the desert into pools of water, and a dry land into flowing springs.
He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.

There He settles the hungry, and they establish a city to live in.
And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;

They sowed fields and planted vineyards, which yielded a fruitful harvest.
And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.
Verse 38
He blessed them, and they multiplied greatly, and He did not let their livestock decrease.
He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.
Verse 39
Yet they were diminished and brought low through oppression, calamity, and sorrow.
Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.
Verse 40
He pours out contempt on nobles and makes them wander in a trackless wasteland.
He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.
Verse 41
But He lifts the needy out of their affliction and makes their families like flocks.
Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock.
Verse 42
The upright see this and rejoice, but all wickedness shuts its mouth.
The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
Verse 43
Let whoever is wise heed these things and consider the lovingkindness of the LORD.
Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.
