Verse 1
For the director of music. According to the eighth. A psalm of David.
Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
Verse 2
Help, LORD, for the godly have vanished; the faithful have disappeared from among humanity.
They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
Verse 3
Everyone speaks falsehood to their neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.
The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:
Verse 4
May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and the tongue that speaks with arrogance.
Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?
Verse 5
Those who say, 'By our tongue we will prevail; our lips are our own—who is lord over us?'
For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.
Verse 6
Because of the oppression of the poor and the groaning of the needy, 'Now I will arise,' says the LORD; 'I will place them in the safety they long for.'
The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Verse 7
The words of the LORD are pure, like silver refined in a crucible on the ground, purified seven times.
Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
Verse 8
You, LORD, will keep them; you will protect them from this generation forever.
The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.
Verse 9
The wicked freely strut around when vileness is exalted among mankind.
