Verse 1
To the director, a song of David, the servant of the LORD, who spoke the words of this song to the LORD on the day the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.
I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.
Verse 2
He said, "I love You, LORD, my strength."
The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
Verse 3
The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield, the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
Verse 4
I called upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I was saved from my enemies.
The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.
Verse 5
The cords of death surrounded me, and the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.
Verse 6
The ropes of Sheol entangled me; the traps of death confronted me.
In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.
Verse 7
In my distress, I called upon the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From His temple, He heard my voice, and my cry for help came into His ears.
Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.
Verse 8
Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of the mountains quaked and were shaken, because He was angry.
There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.
Verse 9
Smoke rose from His nostrils, and consuming fire came from His mouth; burning coals blazed forth from Him.
He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet.
Verse 10
He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under His feet.
And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind.
Verse 11
He mounted a cherub and flew; He soared on the wings of the wind.
He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.
Verse 12
He made darkness His covering, His canopy around Him—the dark rain clouds of the skies.
At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire.
Verse 13
Out of the brightness of His presence, His clouds advanced, with hailstones and burning coals of fire.
The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire.
Verse 14
The LORD thundered from the heavens; the Most High uttered His voice, with hailstones and burning coals.
Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.
Verse 15
He shot His arrows and scattered His enemies; with great bolts of lightning, He threw them into confusion.
Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.
Verse 16
The channels of the sea appeared, and the foundations of the world were laid bare at Your rebuke, LORD, at the blast of breath from Your nostrils.
He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.
Verse 17
He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters.
He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.
Verse 18
He rescued me from my powerful enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me.
They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.
Verse 19
They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my support.
He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.
Verse 20
He brought me out into a spacious place; He rescued me because He delighted in me.
The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.
Verse 21
The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands He has repaid me.
For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.
Verse 22
For I have kept the ways of the LORD and have not wickedly departed from my God.
For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me.
Verse 23
All His judgments are before me, and I have not turned away from His statutes.
I was also upright before him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity.
Verse 24
I was blameless before Him and kept myself from my iniquity.
Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.
Verse 25
So the LORD has repaid me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His sight.
With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright;
Verse 26
To the faithful You show Yourself faithful; to the blameless You show Yourself blameless.
With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward.
Verse 27
To the pure You show Yourself pure, but to the crooked You show Yourself shrewd.
For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt bring down high looks.
Verse 28
You save a humble people, but You bring low those whose eyes are haughty.
For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.
Verse 29
You light my lamp, LORD my God; You illuminate my darkness.
For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.
Verse 30
With You I can run against a troop, and with my God I can leap over a wall.
As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.
Verse 31
As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God?
Verse 32
For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the rock except our God?
It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.
Verse 33
It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.
He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places.
Verse 34
He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; He causes me to stand on the heights.
He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
Verse 35
He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.
Verse 36
You have given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand upholds me, and Your gentleness has made me great.
Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.
Verse 37
You widen the path beneath me, so my feet do not slip.
I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed.
Verse 38
I pursue my enemies and overtake them; I do not turn back until they are destroyed.
I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet.
Verse 39
I crush them, and they cannot rise; they fall beneath my feet.
For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.
Verse 40
You arm me with strength for battle; You humble my adversaries beneath me.
Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me.
Verse 41
You have made my enemies turn their backs in retreat, and I destroy those who hate me.
They cried, but there was none to save them: even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.
Verse 42
They cry for help, but there is no one to save them—to the LORD, but He does not answer.
Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets.
Verse 43
I grind them as fine as dust before the wind; I pour them out like mud in the streets.
Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people whom I have not known shall serve me.
Verse 44
You deliver me from the strife of the people; You make me the head of nations; a people I had not known serves me.
As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.
Verse 45
At the mere hearing of my voice, they obey me; foreigners submit to me grudgingly.
The strangers shall fade away, and be afraid out of their close places.
Verse 46
Foreigners lose heart and come trembling out of their strongholds.
The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.
Verse 47
The LORD lives! Blessed be my Rock! Exalted be the God of my salvation!
It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me.
Verse 48
The God who avenges me and subdues peoples under me,
He delivereth me from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.
Verse 49
who delivers me from my enemies. You exalt me above those who rise against me; You rescue me from the violent man.
Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.
Verse 50
Therefore I will praise You, LORD, among the nations; I will sing praises to Your name.
Great deliverance giveth he to his king; and sheweth mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.
Verse 51
He gives victory to His king and shows steadfast love to His anointed, to David and his descendants forever.
