Verse 1
Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?
Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
Verse 2
The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against His Anointed One.
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
Verse 3
Let us break their chains and throw off their ropes from us.
Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
Verse 4
The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
Verse 5
Then He speaks to them in His anger and terrifies them in His wrath:
Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
Verse 6
I have installed My King on Zion, My holy mountain.
Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
Verse 7
I will proclaim the decree of the Lord: He said to me, 'You are My Son; today I have become Your Father.'
I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Verse 8
Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Verse 9
You will break them with an iron rod; You will shatter them like a potter's vessel.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
Verse 10
Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth.
Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
Verse 11
Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Verse 12
Kiss the Son, lest He be angry and you perish in your way, for His wrath can flare up quickly. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
