Verse 1
For the director, to the tune of 'The Doe of the Morning,' a psalm of David.
My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
Verse 2
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Far from saving me, from the words of my groaning.
O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.
Verse 3
My God, I call out by day, but you do not answer, and by night, but I find no rest.
But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
Verse 4
Yet you are holy, enthroned upon the praises of Israel.
Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.
Verse 5
In you our ancestors trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them.
They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.
Verse 6
To you they cried out and were delivered; in you they trusted and were not put to shame.
But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
Verse 7
But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by mankind and despised by the people.
All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,
Verse 8
All who see me mock me; they sneer and shake their heads:
He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
Verse 9
'Commit yourself to the LORD; let Him deliver him! Let Him rescue him, since He delights in him.'
But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts.
Verse 10
Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me secure on my mother’s breasts.
I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly.
Verse 11
From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother’s womb, you have been my God.
Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.
Verse 12
Do not be far from me, for trouble is near, and there is no one to help.
Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
Verse 13
Many bulls surround me; strong ones of Bashan encircle me.
They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
Verse 14
They open their mouths against me, like a lion ripping and roaring.
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
Verse 15
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are disjointed. My heart is like wax; it melts within me.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
Verse 16
My strength is dried up like a broken piece of pottery, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death.
For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
Verse 17
Dogs surround me; a band of evildoers encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet.
I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
Verse 18
I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me.
They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
Verse 19
They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.
But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me.
Verse 20
But you, LORD, do not be far off; you are my strength; come quickly to help me.
Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog.
Verse 21
Rescue my soul from the sword, my only life from the power of the dogs.
Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.
Verse 22
Save me from the mouth of the lion; from the horns of wild oxen, you have answered me.
I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.
Verse 23
I will declare your name to my brothers; in the assembly, I will praise you.
Ye that fear the LORD, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.
Verse 24
You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!
For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.
Verse 25
For he has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, nor has he hidden his face from him; when he cried to him for help, he heard.
My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.
Verse 26
From you comes my praise in the great assembly; I will fulfill my vows before those who fear him.
The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.
Verse 27
The humble will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the LORD will praise him. May your hearts live forever!
All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.
Verse 28
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before you,
For the kingdom is the LORD'S: and he is the governor among the nations.
Verse 29
for the kingdom belongs to the LORD, and he rules over the nations.
All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.
Verse 30
All the rich of the earth will feast and bow down; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him—those who cannot keep themselves alive.
A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.
Verse 31
Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord.
They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.
Verse 32
They will come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet to be born, for he has done it.
