Verse 1
A psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.
O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
Verse 2
O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.
For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.
Verse 3
For your arrows have sunk into me, and your hand has come down upon me.
There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.
Verse 4
There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation; there is no peace in my bones because of my sin.
For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
Verse 5
For my iniquities have gone over my head; like a heavy burden, they are too much for me to bear.
My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.
Verse 6
My wounds are foul and festering because of my foolishness.
I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.
Verse 7
I am bent over and deeply bowed down; all day long I go about mourning.
For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.
Verse 8
For my loins are filled with burning, and there is no health in my body.
I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.
Verse 9
I am feeble and crushed; I groan because of the anguish of my heart.
Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.
Verse 10
O Lord, all my desires are before you, and my sighing is not hidden from you.
My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.
Verse 11
My heart throbs, my strength has left me; even the light of my eyes—it has also gone from me.
My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.
Verse 12
My loved ones and friends stand aloof from my affliction, and my relatives stand far off.
They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.
Verse 13
Those who seek my life lay snares for me; those who seek to harm me speak of ruin and plot deception all day long.
But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.
Verse 14
But I am like a deaf man who does not hear, and like a mute man who cannot open his mouth.
Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.
Verse 15
I have become like a man who does not hear and in whose mouth there are no rebukes.
For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.
Verse 16
For I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God.
For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.
Verse 17
For I said, "Lest they rejoice over me; when my foot slips, they magnify themselves against me."
For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.
Verse 18
For I am ready to fall, and my pain is continually before me.
For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.
Verse 19
I confess my iniquity; I am anxious because of my sin.
But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.
Verse 20
But my enemies are vigorous and strong, and many are those who hate me wrongfully.
They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.
Verse 21
Those who repay evil for good oppose me because I follow what is good.
Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me.
Verse 22
Do not forsake me, O LORD; O my God, do not be far from me!
Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.
Verse 23
Hurry to help me, O Lord, my salvation!
